Give this beer at least 5-10 minutes in your hand, to warm it up a bit. While the Coast Brewing Company doesn't go so far as freezing their glassware or serving their beer at 33 degrees, it is still a bit too cold for a proper ale, especially a stout. That having been said, there are some notes of roasted barley in the nose, and a fair amount of barley and chocolate in the taste. Hopping moderate, anonymous, and unobtrusive, more-or-less to style. I would say this is your standard, runoff-the-mill, bare-bones, basic Stout, with no huge defects to speak of.

This reminds me how Stout is one of the best beers a beginning homebrewer can make for his/her first batch or two. A very forgiving style, with any defects masked by the color and flavor profile. Same goes for this one. Another solid, if slightly noncommittal, beer from The Coast Brewing Company.
