A collaborative beer produced by Terrapin Beer Co. and Cigar City Brewing, two innovative breweries in the deep South. We decided to make a beer that will bring to mind a Southern staple, pecan pie. Pecans were first introduced to colonists by the Algonquin Indians. They referred to the nut as pakan or paccan, which means "a nut so hard that is ha to be cracked with a stone." The two breweries agreed that a malty, dark lager would be a great canvas for such a Southern tradition, graciously slathering heaps of Munich malt and other specialty grains to emulate a portrait of Southern hospitality, the likes of which could conquer any sweet tooth. And just a reminder: it's pronounced puh-CON, not Pee-can!

750mL bottle pours with a dark amber body that has glowing thin gold edges and supports a tan head of foam. The aroma offers up molasses, caramel malts, sweet and hoppy wort notes, some mild fruity esters and then malt sweetened ginger snap cookies. Cool. The taste is smooth sweet goodness with molasses, caramel malts and tasty sweet sticky wort flavored spiced cookies. This all rides on a smooth slick rich sweetness that binds everything together. I want to give this about a 3.9 but being the “homer” I am it needs to bump up higher.

Pours out so dark brown it's almost black. About the same color as the filing in a pecan pie. The aroma smell like sorghum molasses and raw cane sugar. The mouthfeel is bold and has a slight alcohol zing. The taste is smooth and complex with the taste of sweet malt, pecan, and slight chocolate. I like it and will buy again but next time share it because of rich sweet taste. This is the only beer that I have liked. That the vanilla is strongly pronounced in the beer.

Pours a warm dark-chocolate brown with a thick, though effervescent, tan head. Syrupy aroma has a strong overtone of molasses and hints of coffee, toffee and caramel. Bold, syrupy flavor is quite sweet, almost too sweet, with notes of chocolate, caramel, molasses, toffee and pecan. Texture is VERY thick and viscous, although fizz leaves a tad to be desired. Overall, satisfying and tasty. I love collaborations.
