This Russian Imperial Stout is dedicated to Gregory Zhukov. Arguably one of World War II's finest generals and a man bold enough to appreciate the rich, complex flavors of a beer brewed to fortify a body through the Russian winter. Like military geniuses, Russian Imperial Stouts reach their peak with a little age on them, so we release Marshal Zhukov's Russian Imperial Stout in sweltering August so that it will be at peak flavor come January or February. Opaque black in color, the aroma has notes of espresso, chocolate, dark sweet toffee with hints of black strap molasses. The flavor starts with an unsweetened chocolate character and supporting notes of herbal dryness from English hop varietals. It then moves into dark toffee sweetness and closes with a slap of roasty espresso. Zhukov's Imperial Stout pairs well with Mushroom Solyanka, dark chocolate, cherries and ground wars in Russia. Enjoy, comrade.

750mL poured deep dark void with dark mocha head, a bit of legginess and sparse spotty lacing. The aroma has lots of roasty malts moving toward full hearty thick earthiness and then into milk chocolate and spicy hops. As it warms the notes shift all over the place from lots of chocolate to mostly earthy then to highly roasted. The taste begins smooth and creamy as a wide load of roasted to highly roasted malts rumble through the flavor. The roast squashes out moments of dark chocolate, earthiness and spicy hops as those notes struggle to be heard. Into the finish it gets more roasty and toward burnt like with brief wafer thin pulses of caramel showing up as the taste murmurs away into the long lasting after taste.

Sample from bottle at Copenhagen Beer Celebration. Pitch black colour, brown head. Very roasty aroma, notes of coffee and dark chocolate. The flavour is very sweet and very roasty, notes of coffee and molasses.

Pours rich coffee sable with a fair chocolate head. Aroma features roast malt, chocolate, molasses and quality coffee the way an imperial stout otter. Tastebud-blowing flavor delivers roasted and slightly charred malt, quality coffee, candy bar chocolate, molasses and even a hint of - bourbon? And this isn’t barrel aged! Viscous mouthfeel offers good fizz. One more off my bucket list. Salute the General.

Pours out solid black. The aroma hits you with solid vinegar and abv. The mouthfeel is some where between solid and sweet. The taste is all tobacco and cigar strained through a leather boot..

Exceptional imperial stout, rich and complex. Choc full o' dark roasted malts, chocolate, nuts and cream. Some dark berries and toffee. Great pour, thick and oily. Large, lasting head and good lacing for the style. Silky and rich mouth feel, not overpowering but sturdy for sure.

Shared bottle, KnoxBeerCrew tasting. Heavy black pour, almost like motor oil, tight tan head reduced to a constant cap and ring, drapes of brown color instead of lacing. Dark roaste dmalts, molasses, dark choclates, coffee, raisins, just plain big. Big dry and roasted flavor, molasses and brwon sugar with dark chocolate, black coffee, raisins and plums, dry finish. Big Ass Comrade of a stout.

Pours jet back with a tan head. I was surprised at the detectable hops. With a beer this big I have to wonder what it took to have this kind of hop presence? All around, a great Imp Stout that won't leave you sucking the sugar out of your teeth.

Certainly right up there with the top impy's, the one detraction would be mouthfeel. As thick and black as this beer pours, it's almost too thin and fizzy in the mouth. Great licorice and chocolate aroma, thick tar-anise type flavor, again, right up there with all the good ones except in body.

Ho. Lee. Crap! This is what a russian stout should be! i've had plenty o dark beers, this was easily THE darkest. just when you think there are only so many shades of black, this beer comes along. even tilting the glass, the edges were still near jet black (and my friend remarked there was a rainbow sheen like you'd see on a oil slick). it even sounded like oil glugging out of the bottle. Huge aroma of chocolate, coffee, dark fruit, hoppiness in the nose and flavor more as it warmed. licorice in there as well. Big all around, but a very complex brew. super thick, but not cloying, and less hot than the BORIS. an excellent sipper. perfect for a cold winter night, not one i'd probably ever have in the summer. this will be pretty high up there in-style and overall for me. one of the best new stouts i've had in quite some time.

Bottled@The Chriso Gaylord Tasting. Excellent artwork! Quite much pitch black colour with small brown head. Aroma is toffee, alcohol, fruits, chocolate, mild fruityness and nuttyness as well. Flavour is coffee, fruits, liquorice, some alcohol and mild notes of wood as well. Just lovely!
