Black with just a thin "dusting" of a cap. Lemony & woody aroma with underlying char. The flavor was surprisingly hoppy to me, as it was to mwiscount. I tend to associate this sort of flavor with other styles and seasons, and the surprise was not welcome-- I'd probably have enjoyed this more with some forewarning! Perhaps one for re-review at another time.

This was another OK beer from Hannah! Beautiful black color with a thin taupe foam rim. Tasted like charred hoppy which made it more bitter than I anticipated from the name Winter Stout. Extreme in hops! Shared this one with Qat which led to a deep discussion on hops and its role in beer appeal.

Smoky aroma has a strong woody hoppy component, rather like dry hay, and hints of molasses and licorice. It pours a deep sable with a fine-bubbled tan head that leaves good lacing. Smoky flavor has woody hops, molasses, semi-sweet chocolate, licorice and coffee notes of varying strength. Firm, smooth body has a good ragged fizz. Very enjoyable, will definitely take the edge off the winter chill!
