The Belgian-style Dubbel is a beer style crafted by and made famous by the Trappist monks of Belgium. Our version is deep ruby red and malty with just enough phenols and esters from the Belgian yeast to bring the complex flavors from the Belgian yeast to bring the complex flavors from a beer of this style into balance.

Comes out of the growler a nice clear sepia - though the thin wheat head doesn’t stick around too long. Aroma has notes of apple, caramel and malt plus just a hint of butterscotch. Flavor has malty, caramel and fruity notes - the latter a mixture of apple and pear with a touch of banana - plus a hint of horehound. Smooth texture has average body and not much fizz, but this still adds up to an enjoyable beer.

super fruity and bready aroma...like a doppelbock on crack. thick feel, but slightly overcarbonated. flavor much the same as the aroma with lots of sweet light fruit, doughy, with a hint of controlled spice. nicely done. thanks to Hannah for the trade.

What Suds, you didn't like this one? Too bad for you ol' boy! Holy shiot, totally dug this beautiful beer. Shared with my lovely Missus, pours into the glass frothy, bright amber, somewhat cloudy accompanied by an aroma of raisins, grapes and biscuits. Taste is noticeably boozy ecspecially as it gets warmer. Just gets me crankin for sure. I dig it. Thanks to ma main man Brett for passing this along to me in the hot hot heat of Wakarusa. What a pleasure to meet you my friend :)

Graciously received in trade from Brett. Label sticker states "Gold Medal Winner 2009 GABF" - well, hot damn! Pours a ruby amber with no head nor lacing. Great carbonation. Aromas of sweet malts, brown sugar, Belgian yeasties. Taste is initially slightly sweet and malty with heavy yeasts and slight floral and earthy flavor and a very slight bitter in the fizzy end. I loved it - another good Choc beer - thanks Brett.

Poured a very murky medium spritz brown .. . light fizzy head to go with the ridiculously uncomfortable fizzy mouthfeel .. . decent chocolate and twisted caramel in the flavor depo .. . i got the krimp down, but i just don’t get Krebs.. . did a scarecrow steal your shoes??

Sampled from bottle. Pour ruby-amber with a lasting off-white head. The head leave sheets of lacing behind. Attractive and right on style. Its aroma is pleasant and the yeast doesn't totally overwhelm the malt aromas. Again, nicely done. The flavor is good - complex malt profile with restrained yeast character. I think the brewer did a great job with the yeast in that the phenols/esters didn't go wild, but there's something just a bit off to me. I'll let it get some age and try it again. Might be the water? Worth trying, but after trying the awesome Choc Saison & Biere de Garde, I was expecting a home run!
