For May’s High Octane beer, we’ve experimented with the classic Bière de Garde style, but aged it in tequila barrels for a Mexican twist. Zesty citrus and black pepper from our chosen hops balance complex fruity notes, agave and wine gums. The oak aging brings vanilla to this fiesta of flavour, balancing the bitterness and complementing the prominent malt character. Farmhouse Cartel is here today, but gone mañana, so grab this cervecita while you can.

330 ml can, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 10%. Hazy brownish-orange colour, moderate white head. Aroma of citrus, hints of flowers, stewed fruits and tequila. Citric and boozy mouthfeel. Flavour of oak / tequila barrel, sweet malts, stewed fruits and peppery bittering hops. Not the best way to treat a biére de garde.
