Deriving its name from Edgar Allan Poe's classic tale of madness and murder, our newest Smokestack Series release takes a predictably lighthearted approach to the subject of sourness. The subtle acidity of Tell-Tale Tart is answered by a soft, biscuity malt character, making this a sour ale that suggests, rather than announcing its tartness. Beginning with a bracing sharpness at first sip, the ale mellows on the palate to a smooth and faintly lingering finish. Pours clear amber with a thick but effervescent eggshell head. Aroma is not strong, but has nice fruity and malty tones. Flavor far outstrips the aroma, strongly fruity and tart with notes of banana, pear and mango; malt provides the foundation. Texture has firm and viscous body, if not much fizz, while fruity finish has just a whisper of hops. Let this tart tell its tale.

Haven't had too many Wild Ales. Finding them to be a lighter version of sours, or something like a sour wheat ale. Complex flavors of tart cherry, wheat, yeast, wood notes... some nutiness on the finish. A good solid brew if looking for something different.

A bright orange-cherry colored beer with a small, two fingered sudsy textured off white head rising briefly above. A moderate ringlet is left. Earthy-grainy nose. A melding of that with a tart fruitiness in the tasting. Clean and crisp.

12 oz bottle. Pours slightly hazy reddish gold with a big bubbly off white head that retains well and leaves little lacing.

The aroma is sweet woody malt with tart acidic cherry and fruits. Fades quickly as it sits.

The flavor is sweet, tart and acidic cherry with some wood notes. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

    Overall, a nice cherry sour.
