Dark Hollow - Imperial Stout Aged in Oak Bourbon Barrels The mystery of great beer challenges the spirit of adventure in all who seek a higher level to this ancient brew. Dark Hollow blends the miracle of two crafts—brewing and distillation—to create a work greater than the sum of its parts. Our imperial stout has been aged in charred American oak bourbon barrels, patiently breathing in and out of the wood, gaining complexity, depth and character.

Pours a coffee brown with a thick tan head. Roast malt and coffee aroma has an overtone of bourbon-soaked wood. I’m going Pavlov! Flavor starts with dark alt and adds on roast coffee, bourbon, oak, horehound, molasses and caramel tones for a WOW! beer. Smooth and fizzy texture leaves a mouthgasm-inducing finish of bourbon-infused oak, roast malt and molasses. Come to the Dark Hollow side - we have great beer!

Bottle from FoamFan. Shared with friends. Near black brown colored pour with a medium head leaving lazy chunky lacing. Deep toasted malts, molasses, oak and light Bourbon, hint of vanilla, some coffee, earthy hops with a nice long linger. Very well received amongst my close beer friends too. Thank you Dave - very worthy!

I got this beer as a gift and it was VERY GOOD. Thanks for splitting it with me Lantz M. The beer was coffee and dark - flavor tracked the nose. Bourbon, honey, and coffee. I would have this again.

This 750ml cork and caged pours an attractive deep black with a walnut head that offers nice lacing. Strong chocolate forward aromas meld with day old coffee. The mouthfeel is a bit thin and this is one to sip and savor over a good while. Bitter chocolate taste with creamy iced coffee and a harsh oakiness that is a bit distracting. The barrel doesn't dominate, which is a plus, but the tannins from the oak are a tad much.

From VA Blue Mountain Brewery, of course I'm going to love it! VA, my new home, coffee and chocolate make this a banner beer for me! The color is gorgeously dark and rich. The chocolate is bitter with the coffee evening it out. This could be a staple in my fridge!
