Back in ‘94, as Ed McNally was driving through the great Alberta prairie, he had an inspiration. Alberta grows the world’s best wheat. In Belgium and Germany, there’s a long tradition of wheat ale, so Ed asked Bernd Pieper, Big Rock's first Brewmaster to create an Alberta version of the classic. On that drive in the prairie, a grasshopper had met its demise on Ed’s windshield. Ed was moved. He named the beer in honour of that little critter.

A beer for a summer vacation, and one of the earliest 'craft' beers I tried. This beer had an aroma that reminded more of rye than wheat. It was a nice golden colour when poured. It is smooth to the tongue and is smooth tasting. I would certainly recommend this beer to somebody wanting to try a decent wheat beer without paying through the nose.

This is just a bad beer all around. Sweet grainy malt flavours is the most positive thing I can say. Struggling to get it down. I hope this is a long enough comment.

Pours very minimal head, just a thin coating. Fairly weak lacing. Has a pale yellowish appearance. Aromas of grainy malt, with hints of sweet and bready malts. Flavours of corn, grains and wheat with notes of sweet malts and earthy hops. Good retention. Average carbonation. An ok beer, nothing much for a wheat beer. Had on tap a while back and seem to prefer that way.

Pretty average beer, on tap at work. Often when someone comes in and asks for lager, this is what I give them. It is not lager, but well it might as well be, very uneventful on the palate, and the nose is simple mild biscuit malt with a slight slight slight touch of lemony air freshner. thin to medium bodied, over carbonated.... cant think of much else to say.

I asked my partner to 'surprise' me at the beer store and this is what I got...quite a pleasant surprise. A nice session beer...smooth feeling and tasting. Nice golden straw colour. Will definitely buy again!

Canned (thanks Rosenbergh!). Yellow colour, small head. Aroma is fruits, wheat, grass and some slight cardboardy notes along with some mild caramel notes. Flavour is quite similar with some slight citrusy notes as well.

Since i'm not a big beer drinker I still prefer light beer, except this one was almost to thin and watery for my own taste. Like water, that beer is very easy to drink...still refreshing. Nice yellow honey color, smell clear and fresh, not much carbonation, feels smooth in the mouth. Yum...Yum

A great beer on a warm day! Grasshopper pours a golden yellow colour with a fairly small white head which rapidly disappears. A distinct wheat aroma and a hoppy and malty flavour. Very smooth and easy to drink. One of my favorite everyday beers.

This is a golden-yellow beer with a white head. The aroma is weakly malty with just a hint of wheat. The mouthfeel is thin, with champagne-like carbonation. The flavour is complex, malty, hoppy, and wheaty tones all come through resulting in a very drinkable beer.

One of the best beers that Big Rock has come up with. Tastes and smells wheaty but pours a crisp golden color. I Was surprised they had this beer on tap at Moxies.

This is a wheat beer in the American style eh? It's a golden coloured beer with a white head that refuses to linger. It smells and tastes grainy. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, but a little too much carbonation. Another brew that is popular in Alberta....but not sure it is popular anywhere else.
