I knew we had something special on hand when the first batch came out of the brew house, but a Rauchbier is such a unique beer I wasn’t sure if it would ever get mainstream support, now I realise it's possible! If you have never tried a Rauchbier before, brace yourself, it's not for the faint-hearted. It's going to be a little bit hard to find right now, but we're sure support will grow. If you want to learn a little more about this style of beer before tasting, keep reading! There once was a time when all beers were Rauchbiers. Back then, malt was always kilned over an open flame instead of using 'clean malting' techniques that are commonly used today. Rauchbier is an ancient beer style and it's not for those who are shy, timid or afraid to try new things. Big Rock's Rauchbier uses a hefty portion of smoked malt, a dose of Munich malt and a touch of black malt. We should warn you, this brew is certainly an acquired taste complete with a measure of Sterling hops and a bold smoky flavour that you won.t find anywhere else.
