COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION Chase away the winter blahs with a sunshiny taste of California oranges and Peruvian cacao beans! Blood Simple is a chocolate-orange riff on the classic citrus-and-spice character of a Belgian-style witbier. It is brewed with organic blood orange juice, organic orange peel, and organic cacao. HISTORY & STYLE: Like many Belgian styles, the roots of Witbier can be traced to the brewing traditions that originated in the monasteries of the Brussels area. The zesty citrus and spice character of the yeast is echoed by the blood orange juice and organic peel, and well complemented by the cacao. TASTING NOTES: Blood Simple pours cloudy with a white foam. Aromas are of orange citrus and cacao, with flavour marked by spritzy, juicy orange. The body is light and lively, and cacao asserts itself nicely in the finish. FOOD PAIRINGS: Duck a l’orange, chocolate mousse TECHNICAL SPECS ALC/VOL: 5.3 % INGREDIENTS: Local spring water, organic barley and wheat malts, organic flaked wheat, organic blood orange juice, organic cacao nibs, organic orange peel, organic hops, brewer’s yeast. OG: 12.1 FG: 2.2 SERVING TEMP.: 4-6 C GLASSWARE: Brussels

Pours a hazy light golden-yellow colour with a frothy white cap, good retention and creamy lacing. Orange aromas with mild grassy hops, cereal malts and Belgian sugars. The light bitterness in the taste comes from the orange peel. Not too dry though. Hints of sourness. The blood orange juice blend things. The wheat as well. Pretty easy-drinking wheat ale with the natural orange notes.

On tap at Bowman's Bar and Grill. Pours an inch thick frothy creamy white head and has a cloudy orangey appearance. Nice thick dirty lacing. Aromas are citrusy, oranges, fairly zesty, decent maltiness. Flavours are quite fruity, lots of citrus notes, a little bit of yeast and also wheat. Medium body. Smooth and silky mouthfeel. Some subtly tarty notes in the finish. Perfect summer beer with more heft to it than usual sessionable summer beers.
