This historical “mumme” beer style has been brought back to life for Beau’s Oktoberfest! A medieval-era ale with a bouquet of botanicals including red clover blossom, mugwort, dandelion root, and black tea, this beer is spice-forward with balancing residual malt sweetness. History & Style Beau’s Oktoberfest features a cross-brewery team beer challenge for 2015 – the staff have split into 4 camps, each eager to out-brew each other for the right to Team Beer victory and a place in the 2016 Oktoberfest Mix Pack! Mumme is a medieval ale that shares characteristics with a modern altbier. “Return of the Mumme” is brought to you by Team Luchador. Tasting Notes Pours a dark orange with a frothy tan head. Initial aromas of gingerbread and malt, and black licorice rise up from a subtle traditional hop aroma. Mouthfeel is smooth and slightly creamy, leaving a residual sweetness to balance the spices and the hops. Food Pairings Country-style paté with pistachios; caraway gouda; tourtière; ragout de pattes de cochon; English-style spiced beef. Enjoyed at the Loon. Pours a hazy caramel-amber colour with a beige head, minimal retention and lacing. Spicy nose with nutmeg and cinnamon, reminding me of Halloween bakeries. The spices are well-blended in the taste with the herbs added, leaving a mild grassy dry finish. Light spices lingers and hints of bread. A nice smelling, pumpkinish brew, but with a nice smooth hoppy taste.

On tap at Arrow and Loon. Pours very little head and has a hazy dark amber appearance. Weak lacing. Aromas of light toasty malts, cinnamon and grainy malts. Flavours are quite overwhelming at first, very busy like nutmeg, cinnamon, malt, notes of yeast. The finish is almost kinda like a pilsner with the grainy malt taste. Definitely some spices in there. Not too bad.
