What can be said about Comrade Bill that hasn't been said already? According to Jeff Evans "A Bold and Tasty Russian Stout with a mouthfilling, airy, texture and a lot of enjoyable, peppery, bitter chocolate flavours", and who am I to argue? 2007 has been Comrade Bills year, with a Silver for the cask version and Gold for the Bottle at the Regional S.I.B.A. awards and then going on to win Gold Nationally. Maris Otter Pale Malt with crystal, dark crystal, amber, chocolate and just a bit of roast Barley giving a deep dark body. The hops are quite simply Galena for a two hour boil and then finishing off with East Kent Goldings. He may be more Groucho, Chico, Harpo, Gummo and Zeppo than Karl but he can stand beside me at the barricades anytime.

Cask@GBBF2008. Black colour, mediumsized bubbly brown head. Aroma is roasted malts, raisins, sour wood. Flavour is really nice roasted malts, acidic fruits, wood and quite mouthdrying. Also some hints of old black semi-sour coffee. Really smooth and pleasant. Aftertaste is mainly roasted along with some mild coffeeish notes.

Cask at the GBBF 2008. Pitch black colour, no head. Intensely roasty aroma, some undefined perfumed notes too. The flavour is sweet, winey and roasty. Good beer.
