Thus started the process of small trial batches and many staff samplings to achieve the perfect balance between the underlying beer and the blueberry fruit flavour. To name the new beer, we launched a contest via our Facebook fan page to name the new summer seasonal beer. Fans sent us dozens of creative, and some slightly bizarre names for our new beer, such as Blueberry Katnip Ale and Blue Suede Booze. The winner was “Brewberry”. And thus was born our 2010 Summer Seasonal, Brewberry blueberry ale. Brewberry blueberry ale is a wheat ale that is brewed with an addition of blueberries to the fermented beer. The result is a light straw colour ale with a very slight purple cast from the blueberries and carries a thick white head. The aroma is of fresh blueberries and this follows through to the flavour. The finish is fairly dry and slightly tart. All-in-all, a great patio beer for those sunny Alberta summer days. Brewberry blueberry ale is sold in six packs of 341 ml bottles and is available at premium liquor stores and select pubs throughout the province.

Clear gold with some violet hues capped off with a tall slightly purple crown. Very mild malt aroma and surprisingly a very mild blueberry, I was expecting a punch to the face of sweet fake syrup but it never showed up. Taste like a watered down wheat beer with hints of sweet blueberry what is a good thing. I’m getting mild reminders of ego’s but not too much. Beer is crisp and clean what makes this one of the few fruit beers you can drink in mass quantities. Good job Alley Kat this isn’t my style but you did very well.
