Alaskan Summer Ale balances a softly malted palate with the clean freshness of Hallertauer hops. In the tradition of the style, neither overpowers the other. Both hops and malt come together to refresh and renew the palate. The straw-gold color and easy drinkability are an enjoyable way to celebrate summer.

Purs a light amber with almost no head to it what-so-ever. Aroma is sweet with hints of grass. Taste is smooth with a slightly bitter end. Overall not bad at all.

Not a big kolsch guy, however this is a bit better than expected. Nice aromas of grass, with some banana and other fruit tones. Nice golden body, not too much carbonation. the head settles to a thin soapy cover, some spotty lace is left behind. Flavor of sweet malts, bitter hop presence in the middle fading to the end. Not too shabby.

Aroma is malty with a yeasty overtone and a hint of fruit like summer sunshine. It pours a typical clear amber with a thick, frothy, off-white head. Flavor is malty and fruity with hints of caramel and honey - not complex, but still refreshing. Smooth texture has a decent tingle to it and leaves behind a fruity fizz. Not great, but grab a bottle if you get a chance.

Bottled (thanks Kalevi Kurronen!). Golden colour, small white head. Aroma is fruits, hops, a bit earthcellary. Flavour is caramel malts, fruits, some herbs and mild earthy notes.

The beer pours an almost off-putting shade of yellowish orange with essentially no head or lacing of any kind. The nose is malty but light and not particularly engaging. That said, it’s sweet and bready and doesn’t smell off at all. The taste brings in some spicy hops and a faint vinous character. There just isn’t enough depth of character to bring out any more interesting notes. The mouthfeel is surprisingly effervescent and would be even more enjoyable given a different flavor profile. Ultimately, it’s an ok beer with a bland recipe.

not particularly fond of this beer, or the style, but i did like the hops. other than that it's completely avoidable as there are just better summer brews out there. ok.

It pours as a light amber with white head and excellent lace. Aroma of hops, grassy, lemon/citrus, mild berries, and spices. The mouthfeel is smooth, building, and rich. Flavors of rich malts, hops, grassy, some lemon, coriander/spices. Refreshing.

Travel to Alaska and in every gift shop around the city of Anchorage, you'll see the apparel line of Alaskan Brewing Company. One of the shirts you'll see the most of is the Alaskan Summer Ale with an orca whale jumping out of the water. With all that advertising, you can't really leave the state of Alaska without trying the beer. With my most recent trip to Alaska, this tasting occurred at Pizza Man in Eagle River, AK.
When the waitress brought the beer out, it was in this huge goblet and looked amazing refreshing. It had a nice white foamy head across the top of the goblet and beneath that there was a orangy-gold brew. The aroma was a little on the weak side and not too pronounced.
In the flavor category, this one was pretty good with a nice mixture of sweet malts and grassyness. I didn't taste much in the way of any hops though. The sweet grassyness and clean, smooth mouthfeel did make this a fairly decent summer ale. It's not the best one I've ever had, but would really quench the thirst on a hot summer day. This is one of the better Alaskan brewed beers.
