10 | Affligem Dubbel | Belgium | Abbey Dubbel | 4.5
Aroma: 10 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 9 This is an excellent Abbey Dubbel and may even my best yet. Aroma is chocolate and caramel. Appearance looks about like every other Dubbel Ive had, brownish/red. Flavor is chocolate, caramel, apples, oranges, complex for this style! The balance is perfect as the malt does not dominate. Palate is smooth with no evidence of the 7%. Overall its simple and to the point, no frills, but excellent all the same. |

12 | Rocky River Winterfest Ale | United States | Abbey Dubbel | 3.7
Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 8 Strangely enough the Mellow Mushroom in Chattanooga, TN still has 5 of this now defunct brewery's beers on tap. I had the rare chance to sample this years seasonal winter beer. Appearance is a reddish brown. Flavor is very spicy with some dark fruit and nutmeg present in the flavor. The finish is very sweet with a slight bitterness on the tounge. Its a shame this will be my last glass of this nice winter seasonal. RIP Rocky River brewery. |
