Aroma of resinous and spicy hops, also notes of yellow stonefruits, some citrus. Moderate carbonation. The flavour is first sweet and malty with some caramel, followed by resinous and grapefruity bittering hops. Decent enough, but the balance is not optimal.

May 2015: Kinn Bresjnev Sovjet Staut, 750 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 8.0%. Hopped with Fuggles. Pitch black colour, moderate but lasting tan head. Strong dryish roasty aroma, notes of roast malts and coffee, some woodwork too. Medium dry flavour, just enough residual swetness to carry through the strong roasty notes of coffee and dark bitter chocolate. Fairly bitter finish, both from the hops and the roast malts.

440 ml can, from SPAR Jørpeland. ABV is 4.7%. Slightly hazy golden colour, moderate white head. Sweetish aroma of malts and maize / sweet corn, some grassy notes, a hint of caramel. The flavour has also some sweetness, but not as much as the aroma made me fear. A surprisingly distinct and sharpish metallic bitterness follows the sweetness. Unbalanced, unharmonious - not a beer I'll buy again.

Aug. 2020: 330 ml can, from Det Gode Brygg, Kvadrat, Sandnes. ABV is 4.0%. Clear amber colour, moderate white head. Intense and repulsive aroma of artificial mango and orange essence. The flavour has much of the same artificial essence, but is not as sweet as I feared. Sharpish bitter finish. Unbalanced and unpleasant - by far the worst beer I've had from Ægir. Drainpour. Do us a service, and bury this recipe!

The flavour has pleasant notes of citrus and lychee, fortunately not too sweet. Might well buy again, when I just want a nice summer refreshment. A tad more bitterness would not hurt, though.

The flavour is somewhat fresher and better, notes of lemons, lactic acid and berries. Dull finish, low bitterness. Won't buy again.

Fizzy mouthfeel. The flavour has more distinct herbal hops than many other Belgian ales, and is not too sweet. Decent beer.

Sweetish aroma of grass, malts and cookie dough. Fizzy mouthfeel, unpleasant. The flavour has notes of yeast, grass, some fruit and mild spices, some bittering hops in the aftertaste. Not something I’ll buy again.

The aroma has the expected notes of coriander and orange peel, but also less pleasant perfumed and soapy notes. Refreshing flavour, distinctly citrussy with some coriander. Nice enough to drink.

Grainy and mildly spicy aroma. Medium dry and mildly spicy flavour, refreshing. Tolerable hops in the finish. Okay.

Aug. 2005: 750 ml bottle, corked champagne-style. Bought in Denmark. Very large and lasting cream-coloured head, beer is hazy brown with a reddish hue. Very strong and "raw" aroma of barnyard, ensilage, ammonia, leather and fermenting fruits, mellows gradually in the glass. Flavour is a bit smoother and mellower than the aroma - chocolate sweetness, some oak and spices, moderate but decent hops. Mouthfeel becomes strangely metallic and watery (for a 7.5% beer, that is) in the finish. Some liquorice in the aftertaste. An interesting beer after all.

Strong aroma of Christmas spices, too much anise / aniseed (as in a couple other beers from this brewery). Fizzy mouthfeel. The flavour is spicy and medium sweet, again with too much anise / aniseed.

Aroma of malts, dark sugar, dark dried fruits and anise, a hint of sweat. Fizzy mouthfeel. Sweet flavour, malts and dark sugar again, not very spicy, low bitterness, moderate notes of oak. Not bad, but cannot compete with the best trappists.

Slightly sweet flavour, notes of pilsener malts, hints of honey again, herbal German hops in the finish. Not bad.

Citric mouthfeel and flavour, with piney and resinous notes throughout, but the bitterness is moderate. More of an American West Coast Pale Ale than anything typical English. Nice beer.

Pleasant and fresh aroma of fruity kveik and fruity (citrus, tropical fruits) hops, hints of spruce. The flavour is medium dry and crisp, still with fruity and piney notes. Moderate bitterness. Might well buy again.
