7026 Marston's Resolution / Low C United Kingdom Light / Lite Lager 1.6

Aroma: 3 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 3

(275 ml bottle). A low carb bitter - what an idea! Commercial description: "Full flavoured English beer" - my ass! Weak malty aroma, very weak flavour. They sure haven’t used too much of the Golding and Fuggle hops which the label boasts! Quite dry. I used most of it to wash down a meal. Definitely not a beer I’ll buy again!

7027 Old Chimneys Natterjack Premium Ale United Kingdom Extra Special Bitter 4.0

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Bottle conditioned, 500 ml, bought at Memorable Cheeses, Ipswich. Dark copper coloured, hazy (poured the yeast in). Low head, moderate natural carbonation. Moderate malty aroma, hints of caramel, spices and camphor. Flavour is well balanced, malty and a bit spicy, but has a substantial hoppy bitterness in the finish. Very good.

7028 Tindall Suffolk n Good United Kingdom Extra Special Bitter 4.0

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Bottle conditioned, 500 ml. Bought at Memorable Cheeses, Ipswich. A delightful little shop! All beers they stock are local and bottle conditioned. This beer pours with a low head and hazy amber (nearly orange) colour. Moderate but pleasant aroma of caramel / toffee, hops and yeast (I poured it all in). Flavour is slightly yeasty, rounded and well balanced with a moderate but delicious hoppiness that lasts through the aftertaste. Who said the English can’t bottle condition beers?

7029 Birra Moretti Italy Lager 3.0

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

Rerate, 330 ml bottle, now available in Norway (ICA). ABV is 4.6%. Pale golden colour, large head. There’s an initial Heineken-isch whiff when you open the bottle (an American would probably say "skunky"). In the glass the moderate aroma has notes of maize (corn) and cooked vegetables, hints of flowers and honey. Spritzy mouthfeel. The flavour actually has some malts, and also moderate hops in the finish, so this one is far from being the worst pale lager I’ve tasted. Quite drinkable.

7030 Bitburger Premium Pils Germany Bohemian / Czech Pilsener 3.4

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

One of the better German Pilseners, IMO. The Bitburger used to be a small local German brand, known only by connoisseurs and "the locals". It has steadily grown to be a nationwide brand in Germany, and now also an international brand. Some say it also has become more bland and mainstream in the process, but I think it's still a fairly crisp and drinkable pils.

7031 Topvar 11% Tmave - Marina Slovakia Schwarzbier 4.3

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 9

My 500 ml bottle (brewed and bottled in Slovakia, purchased in Finland) just says Topvar Marina Schwarzbier - with an ABV of 5%. I'm slowly getting the idea that the high % in the Slovakian name of all Topvar beers is NOT the ABV, but the malt content or something. This is a delicious Schwarzbier: Black to mahogany colour, good head, oily garage aroma with coffee notes ("coffee break at the garage"). Well balanced malty roast flavour with just the right sweetness - not very complex, but this proves that a well balanced beer does not necessarily have to be complex to be GOOD. In other words - a very drinkable and refreshing Schwarz. A nice roast finish makes you want another one. Yes, please!

7032 Amstel Light Netherlands Light / Lite Lager 1.9

Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4

Well, if the ordinary Amstel isn't bland enough for you... God bless! There's really not much to say in favour of this brew - but a glass of it IS drinkable if you have to drive afterwards.

7033 Amstel Lager Netherlands Pale Lager 2.7

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5

An average lager. Very average! I think it was better the first times I tried it, many years ago (pre-Heineken), but then, my taste may have changed. After they bought the Amstel brewery, Heineken seem to have decided that Amstel should be their "Number 2" brand, in respect of both quantity and quality.

7034 Tuborg Guld (Tuborg Premium Lager) Denmark Lager 3.0

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

The pale lager internationally simply known as 'Tuborg' is in Denmark known as Tuborg Grøn ('Green'), referring to the colour of the bottle and label, not the colour of the beer! ABV there is 4.6%. Sure, when on summer vacation in Denmark and you're thirsty ...., well, a Tuborg is part of it. But this beer is really not more than average, traditionally "competing" with the standard Carlsberg Pilsener/Lager.

7035 Tuborg Kylle Kylle Denmark Bohemian / Czech Pilsener 3.5

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

Tuborg Påskebryg 'Kylle Kylle' is an "Easter brew", a bit darker than a standard pale lager, may probably be classified as a Vienna. But seriously: What the hell IS an 'EASTER brew' supposed to taste like?? Or is that a theological question? Anyway, this isn't a bad try. And the Easter chicken (and possibly the chicks) might like it.

7036 Tuborg Lys Grøn Denmark Reduced Alcohol 1.8

Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 3

This low ABV pale lager (known in Denmark as Tuborg Lys Grøn) is now retired. ABV was 2.6%. Carlsberg Let Pilsner is retired too, they have been replaced by Carlsberg Light. My comment was: Typical light / low alcohol pale beer. Are you sure you have to drive today?

7037 Tuborg FF (Fine Festival) Denmark Bohemian / Czech Pilsener 2.7

Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 6

This is an unsophisticated Euro strong lager with ABV 7.5%. Weak head, golden colour, alcoholic flavour with barely enough maltiness and very moderate hops. Average at the best.

7038 Tuborg Julebryg (Christmas Brew) Denmark Lager 2.8

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5

(0,5 liter dark blue plastic bottle.) Brownish golden colour, moderate head. Aroma and flavour like an average pilsener with liquorice added - and that's what it actually is (the label states that liquorice is an ingredient). Compared to the best Norwegian 'klasse F' Christmas beers, this is BAD (well, it's drinkable, but not much more).

7039 Tuborg Gold Premium Lager Denmark Lager 3.1

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

Known as Tuborg Guld in Denmark. Has a duplicate entry at BeerPal as "Tuborg International Gold Label". This is a quite acceptable medium-strong lager, but nothing extraordinary.

7040 Carlsberg Special Brew Denmark Strong Lager 2.5

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5

This beer seems to be made with no other purpose than producing as much alcohol as possible, and still call it a lager. Stick to Elephant Beer instead - the Elephant is strong enough. The Special Brew is nothing to search out.

7041 Carlsberg Sort Guld Denmark Lager 3.2

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 6

Rerate can: I overrated this beer grossly the first time. This is not much more than an average strong pale lager. Original rating, bottle at the Carlsberg Brewery guest room in Copenhagen: Probably the best medium-strong lager I've had. Lots of taste. Well done Carlsberg!

7042 Badger Golden Champion Ale United Kingdom Blonde Ale 3.5

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 7

(500 ml bottle). Deep golden colour, good head. Nice hoppy and elderflower aroma. Elderflower is probably what I get in the flavour too, but I've never eaten elderflowers, so I can't really tell. There's some caramel and a reasonably decent hoppiness, but it's a bit too sweet IMO. A bit alcoholic too, despite only 5% ABV.

7043 Badger Tanglefoot Strong Ale United Kingdom English Strong Ale 3.9

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

(500 ml bottle). This is really just a decent English bitter with a bit more alcohol. Other raters claim that the bottle is more heavily hopped than the draught version - that might be true, at least the golden beer in front of me has a lovely hoppy aroma and a nice bitterness. Good head. Rather light bodied (too light?), which makes the brewery advertize it as "deceptively drinkable". Very refreshing it is, would like to sample the draught version too.

7044 Carlsberg Lager (Export) Denmark Lager 3.0

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

"Probably the best beer in the world" - NOT!! Over-hyped and over-advertized international lager. The versions sold in Denmark and Norway are a little weaker (4.6 - 4.8%). Must admit I used to have a soft spot for this beer when served fresh in Copenhagen. It's really just an average pale lager, unoffensive and drinkable but not very special in any way.

7045 Carlsberg Ice Denmark Pale Lager 1.4

Aroma: 3 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 2 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 3

Bottle, at the Carlsberg Brewery in Copenhagen. Like all pale "ice" swill lagers: They are brewed to be very drinkable for people who really don't like beer at all. Carlsberg Ice is not even the "best" of the lot. For all people who actually LIKE beer: Avoid the "ice" swill style by all means, and Carlsberg Ice in particular.

7046 Carlsberg Elephant Beer Denmark Strong Lager 3.3

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

A strong lager with an aquired taste. Not bad! - at least better than its reputation. Great accompaniment with a Danish "sildemad". I've had this one mainly from can or fresh bottles in Denmark, thus avoiding the skunkiness some of our American friends report of. Rerate German brewed version, (brewed according to the Reinheitsgebot), ABV 7.5%: The extra 0.3% alcohol certainly doesn't bring anything good to the beer. 7.2% is plenty for a beer with a body as light as this. Stick to the Danish original!

7047 Carlsberg Carls Special Denmark Vienna / Amber Lager 3.5

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

Sure it's good, jamieg - but not THAT good! Rerate: I would say this is probably closer to a dunkel than a Vienna. Smooth, malty, caramel and roasted notes. Nice.

7048 Staropramen Lager Czech Republic Bohemian / Czech Pilsener 3.8

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 7

This is definitely going to be one of my favourite pilseners in the future (whenever I can afford it - it's quite expensive in Norway - or get it abroad). I guess the Czechs won't call it a pilsener as it's not being brewed in Plzen, but to me it's a pils good enough. Good lasting head, delicious Saaz aroma, pleasant flavour, very well balanced, better aftertaste than most pilseners.

7049 Murphy's Irish Red Ireland Irish Ale 3.6

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

500 ml can, bought in Norway. ABV here is 4.7%, to permit the beer being sold in our grocery stores. Canned (and watered down?) in Norway by Hansa-Borg Bryggerier. Reddish brown colour, good head. Aroma is malty with caramel, hints of oak and spices. Full malty flavour, nicely rounded, hints of caramel and herbs. Aftertaste is not unpleasant, but short and a bit watery. This beer is better than I expected, and much better than Kilkenny.

7050 Charles Wells Bombardier United Kingdom Extra Special Bitter 3.5

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

Cask conditioned at the Spread Eagle, London. Smoother and less bitter than the canned version. Aroma and flavour have strong elements of english malt vinegar, but are not really acidic. Maybe the cask was a bit "over the hilltop"? Can, Norwegian version (4.7% ABV) - first rating: Most English 'bitters' are not very bitter at all - but this one is! Too bitter for my taste. Rerate: It's NOT too bitter for my taste! (What was I thinking the first time I had it? I must have been out of my mind!) The nutty bitterness is just right, great refreshment on a hot day. Not outstanding, but a GOOD ale, for sure.
