3851 Midus Trakai Lithuania Mead 3.4

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

Shared bottle at RBNAG 2011 in Oslo. ABV 15%. A still mead, golden colour. Strong aroma of honey and alcohol. Nice sweet honey flavour, a hint of fruitiness. As I’ve actually been to the (restored) old castle of Trakai many years ago, this mead brought back memories ...

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

3854 3 Fonteinen Armand’4 Oude Geuze Zomer Belgium Gueuze 3.6

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

Shared bottle, RBNAG 2011 in Oslo. Golden colour. Difficult to distinguish this from the Lente, but Zomer is slightly less woody and even more lemony in both aroma and flavour.

3855 3 Fonteinen Armand’4 Oude Geuze Herfst Belgium Gueuze 3.6

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

Shared bottle, RBNAG 2011 in Oslo. Again: hard to distinguish from the Lente and Zomer (which we had just minutes before), but Herfst is even more sour and lemony than Zomer, in both aroma and flavour.

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 7

3858 Dupont La Bière de Beloeil Belgium Biere de Garde 3.5

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

Shared bottle, RBNAG 2011 in Oslo. Deep golden to amber colour. Main impression of both aroma and flavour is "moderate everything" - but this would probably stand out as a decent saison if sampled on its own, and not in immediate connection with many sours. Decent hops in the finish.

3859 DeuS (Brut Des Flandres) Belgium Belgian Strong Ale 3.9

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Shared bottle at RBNAG 2011 in Oslo, as Deus Brut des Flandres Cuvée Prestige 2010. Clear and sparkling straw coloured beer. Dryish aroma, moderate but very pleasant farmhouse notes. Very dry and crisp flavour, no doubt a fine beer, but is it worth the high price?

3860 Hornbeer Sourhorn Denmark Wild Ale 3.3

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

500 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 6%. Reddish brown colour, moderate off-white head. Pleasant aroma of red wine, red wine vinegar, oak and farmhouse. The flavour is indeed sour, but not extreme. Notes of malts, red wine vinegar and oak - but unfortunately with a bit too much malty sweetness for my taste. The aftertaste is fairly dry though.

3861 Mont des Cats Bière Trappiste France Abbey Dubbel 3.8

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Shared bottle at RBNAG 2011 in Oslo. Golden-brown colour. Spicy and "typically Belgian" aroma. Pleasant and moderately spicy flavour, not too sweet, again "typically Belgian". A decent trappist, but not of the trailblazing kind.

3862 Max Ivan Eidskog Øl’n Norway Kellerbier 3.0

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

330 ml bottle, from Vika Mat, Oslo. ABV is 4.7%. Organic. Some sediment in the bottle. Cloudy golden colour, moderate white head. "Skunky", grassy and citrussy aroma. Moderate carbonation, soft mouthfeel. The flavour is citrussy, grassy and quite refreshing, with some rougher woody notes of traditional homebrew. Not quite like any other beer from Atna Øl, so I take it that this is an original recipe.

3863 Hornbeer Framboise Denmark Fruit Beer 3.0

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

500 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, + sample at Ølmessen Nærbø. ABV is 5.5%. Pink colour, pours fizzy with a moderate to low pinkish-white head, which disappears completely after a while. Aroma of both sourish and over-ripe raspberries, hints of solvent. Sour flavour, notes of sour raspberries, hints of lemons, minimal hops. Sourish-fruity aftertaste.

3864 Slottskällans Nelson Sweden Lager 3.2

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

500 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is moderate 4.5% - still it is defined as a "starköl" according to Swedish law (sic). Golden colour, moderate white head. Moderate aroma of sweetish crystal malts, caramel and orange marmalade. Moderate carbonation. The flavour is first soft and smooth with a nice balance between the malts and hops, then some "dusty" notes, immediately followed by a less pleasant and very sharp and medicinal bitterness, which lasts throughout the long aftertaste. A weird effect of Nelson Sauvin hops.

3865 Atna Øl Brun Norway Belgian Ale 3.2

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

330 ml bottle, from distributor Strag. ABV is 6.3%. Introduced at Ølfestivalen Nærbø. Quite a bit of sediment in the bottle, some chunks / floaties in the glass. Cloudy brown colour, moderate off-white head. Sourish aroma of Belgian ale yeast, wood and a possible infection? Moderate carbonation in the glass, soft mouthfeel. The flavour is much better than the aroma - malty and bready with hints of brown kandij sugar and some wood, but is not very sweet. Does not taste infected. Decent hops in the finish.

3866 Atna Øl Rypeøl Norway Hefeweizen 3.3

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

330 ml bottle, from distributor Strag. Also sampled at Ølfestivalen Nærbø. ABV is 4.7%. Some sediment in the bottle. Hazy brownish golden colour, moderate to low white head. Moderate aroma, some wood and citrus, a hint of cloves and dust. Moderate carbonation in the glass. Soft mouthfeel. Pleasant to drink, the refreshing flavour has some wheaty, citrussy, woody and bready notes. Tolerable hops. Tastes like a cross between a helles lager and a dunkelweizen.

3869 Saison Dupont Dry Hopping Belgium Saison 3.5

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

Shared magnum bottle at RBNAG 2011, as Saison Dupont Cuvée Dry Hopping, vintage 2011. ABV 6.5%. Hazy straw colour, moderate white head. Grassy hops in the aroma. Decent hoppy bitterness in the flavour. Can’t really say that it’s so much better than the ordinary Saison Dupont - but might be able to tell the difference if I sampled them side by side?

On tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Pitch black colour, low tan head. Lovely roasty aroma, notes of coffee, dark chocolate, liquorice and hickory smoke / bonfires. The flavour is also roasty and smoky, medium dry. A distinct chili burn in the finish and aftertaste. Quite good.
