2401 Wychwood Ginger Beard United Kingdom Spiced Beer 2.5

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 4

March 22, 2013
LCBO Outlet #511 (Toronto, Ontario, Canada – King / Spadina)
500ml bottle
4.2% ABV
$3.50
The beer pours a translucent reddish-gold with a thin tan ring for a head. Aroma is grainy malt, ginger, and light hops. Mouthfeel is light bodied, with high carbonation. Flavour is a British bitter crossed with Ginger Ale but got more beery as it warmed up. Heavy on the ginger and the spice. Not something I would try again.

2409 XO Beer France Biere de Garde 3.8

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 10 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 7

330 ml Bottle
8.0%
I tried this beer on August 17, 2007 at 'Smokeless Joe' in Toronto. The beer poured into a tulip glass a beautiful reddish brown colour with almost no head. Like Biegaman, my bottle was also marked as 8%. The aroma was cognac, malt, alcohol and burnt butterscotch. The mouthfeel was very very smooth with a medium body and some mild carbonation. The taste was very heavy on the cognac, and a little hint of fruit. I did feel the alcohol burn, and for a beer with an 8% abv, that's not good in my book. A little pricey at $14.25/bottle as well when I can visit some other places and get an Abbey Quadrupel for less.

2410 Yanjing Beer China Pale Lager 1.6

Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 3

330ml bottle
4.5% ABV
I tried this beer on October 3, 2008 at “Smokeless Joe’s” in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer poured a translucent gold, with almost a thin white head. The aroma was all grainy malt with a hint of hops. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour was very grassy…all malt, very little hops. I tried a mouthfeel of this during the Olympics and was quite surprised at how bad it was. Having a full bottle reminds me that there’s nothing here to threaten the craft beer industry.

473ml can
6.5% ABV
Milton LCBO Outlet #1 (Milton, Ontario, Canada)
December 23, 2007
The beer poured a translucent gold colour with a generous white fluffy head which quickly disippated after pouring was complete. The aroma was vomit, pure unadulterated vomit. Had I not poured this myself, I don;t think I would have drank it. The mouthfeel was medium bodied, mild carbonation. The taste was better than the aroma. There was a definite hoppy taste. It was a very easy drinking beer, went down well.

2416 Zlatý Bažant / Zlaty Golden Pheasant Slovakia Bohemian / Czech Pilsener 3.4

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

500ml bottle
5.0% ABV (as written on bottle)
Milton LCBO Outlet #1 (Milton, Ontario, Canada)
July 25, 2007
The beer poured a translucent gold colour, darker than most North American lagers. The head was quite large and quite dense but disappeared quickly leaving a little lacing on the side. The aroma is hoppy with some yeasty tinges. The mouthfeel is slightly thick with ample carbonation and medium-bodied. The taste is very much pilsener like, but not as good as some of the common Czech Pilseners in my opinion.

The beer pours a mahogany colour with a thick tan coloured head. Lots of lacing. The aroma is grains, candy sugar, honey, dark fruits, and caramel. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, creamy, and well carbonated. The flavour is burnt sugar, grains, light anise notes, and dark fruit. This Trappist ale needs a bit of work!

March 12, 2008
LCBO # 255 (Milton, Ontario, Canada – Main / Bronte)
500 ml bottle
5.5% ABV
$2.30
The beer poured a nice translucent gold colour with a minimal white head. The aroma was mainly grainy malts with nothing else. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with ample carbonation. The flavour was similar to the aroma in that it was very malty with very little other discernable flavours. This beer is readily available in Canada, but is simply an average brew at best. Not something I would consider buying again
