7101 Black Sheep Ale United Kingdom Extra Special Bitter 4.0

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Sampled from one of their very beautiful 500ml bottle (with hops embossed in it). Poured a nice golden-amber colour with a creamy off-white head that left a thick foamy head. The majority of smell is malt, with a hint of fruits. The mouth starts off very creamy, then leads into a world of bitterness, to then finish on a smooth level. An awesome ale with character !

7102 Tuborg International Gold Label Denmark Lager 1.6

Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 2 | Mouthfeel: 3 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 3

Sampled from 500ml can. Poured a pale golden colour with a foamy head and some moderate lacing. Peeeww ! Then, all hell breaks loose. Smelt hints of hot piss (and malt). Not much carbonation. Quite watery, much prefer Coors Light over this one.

7103 Muskoka Dark Canada Brown Ale 3.7

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 7

Poured a deep amber colour with a beautiful creamy beige head that settled quickly. Left a small amount of lacing. Smelt malty with hints of molasse and tuna (yes... tuna - I know that does not sound pleasant, but it did not ruin the nose). The flavour was matly caramel / coffee with a smooth bitter start and a dry finish. Beats the hell out of Newcastle's english brown ale.

7104 St. Peters Summer Ale United Kingdom English Strong Ale 3.8

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 7

My third St. Peter's experience. Poured a clean orange-amber colour with an off-white head. Left a good amount of lacing, but this brew had no visual carbonation. The nose was hoppy, but also very hard to pin-point exactly what it was... maybe hay. Taste was smooth at start and then finished with a bitter aftertaste. Could not taste the 6.5% alcohol, could only feel it in my head (after having a few beers previously). Again, St. Peter's has a brew that is very special.

7105 Kronenbourg 1664 France Lager 2.3

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 4

Sampled from a 500ml can. Poured a light golden colour with a thick creamy-bubbly head leaving a nice foamy lacing. Great retention. Lightly carbonated and had a mild grassy hop nose. Crisp and smooth. Very mild hop taste shaped a weak mouthfeel. Actually, almost tastes nothing. Good thing for the beautiful appearance (head). Other then that, a great beer for those who hate the taste of beer.

7106 Taj Mahal India Pale Lager 3.2

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 6

This is the first Indian beer I have ever tried. After this one, I will have a Kingfisher Premium Lager... to compare. Says "Slow brewed for the Connoisseur" on the top label. Poured a golden-yellow colour with a good foamy head that created nice lacing, as the head went down, slowly, but always topped the brew. Good amount of carbonation. Grassy and malty aromas. Light mouthfeel and crisp. Flavours were matly with grassy hops. Not bad at all, but let's try the Kingfisher.

7107 Peroni Nastro Azzurro Italy Lager 2.1

Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 4

Poured a light golden colour with a head that faded to nothing very quickly and no lacing. Skunky nose and mildly malty. Sour taste with a dry aftertaste. I prefer the Menabrea Birra for an Italian lager. A good alternative to Heineken though.

7108 Kingfisher Lager India Pale Lager 1.9

Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 4

Pours a golden-yellow colour with a white head. Light carbonation, head settles down quickly enough. O.K. Some lacing. Aromas are very mild, almost non-existing. So is the taste. Much prefered the Taj Mahal that this brewery does (both premium lagers). Also, this one comes in a green bottle, the Taj, in a brown. Refreshing as water.

7109 Cerveja Super Bock Portugal Pale Lager 3.3

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

Second Portuguese beer of the night, the other being "Sagres". This one poured a pale golden colour with a shortly fading foamy head, and a bit of lacing. The brew is lightly carbonated with mild aromas of hops and malts. Crisp start with bitterness and a dry finish. Even though both beers were o.k., I will stick to Port as this countries finest drink.

7110 Courage Directors Bitter United Kingdom Extra Special Bitter 3.8

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 8

Sampled from a 500ml can at Pub Italia in Ottawa. This bitter english ale poured a deep amber colour with a good looking head. Had slight aromas of caramel and nuts. Taste was not as bitter as I expected, more smooth and malty. Not quite the beer I thought it would be, but a very good one nonetheless. Would have this brew again.

7111 Sagres Portugal Pale Lager 2.8

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5

This Portugueuse brew poured a golden colour with a medium-lasting foamy head... and then some lacing. Aromas of hops, and so is the taste: hoppy, with a slight bitter afteratste. Crisp and clean. Nothing very special, but nothing very bad about this beer.

7112 Appenzeller Swiss Mountain Switzerland Pale Lager 2.7

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 5 | Overall: 5

My first Switzerland brew. This one poured a clean golden colour with a nice bubbly white head. I could smell aromas of honey and malt, very little though. Taste is very light, with a slight bitter-sweet finish. Comes in a green bottle. Not much to it.

7113 Coopers Sparkling Ale Australia Blonde Ale 3.5

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

This Australian beer poured a hazy, orange-gold colour, with a small white head. Particules were floating everywhere in the glass (looking more like spices, than yeast). Could smell aromas of citrus (fruity) and wheat. Tasted mild and fruity (a tad of peach). Sediments form at the bottom of the glass. Does not look like a mass-produced brew, quite pleasant.

7114 Grolsch Amber Netherlands Dunkel / Dark Lager 3.8

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 7

Grolsch Amber Ale poured a dark amber colour, with a good lasting cream-foam off-white head. Lightly carbonated, it had great lacing. Aromas are mostly of sweet malt. Taste was slightly bitter with a smooth caramel finish. A pretty good session red ale.

7115 Schneider Weisse Tap 6: Aventinus Weizen Doppelbock Germany Weizenbock 4.0

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Poured a hazy red-beige colour, with a fizzy-bubbly head, but no lacing. Aromas range from malty to fruity. Tastes sour-bitter, with hints of banana and spices. Lots of carbonation. 8% abv. Drunk.

7116 Beamish Irish Stout Ireland Dry Stout 4.0

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Extremely dark-red (opaque) with the cascade-effect running through (up the hill). Massive thick and creamy tanned head. Aromas of nuts and alcohol (minimal). Taste is very smooth, with hints of molasse, and not bitter like Guinness. Dry finish. Good mouthfeel, but not as thick (and filling) as the above-named brew. I really enjoyed this Irish Stout, but still my favorite stays the St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout (in the overall stout family).

7117 Anchor Liberty Ale United States American Pale Ale 4.4

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9

This being my second Anchor Brewery beer of the night, I enjoyed, also being higher in alcohol. Poured a slight hazy golden-orange colour with a huge creamy head. Lacing left was thick and heavy. Tiny bubbles formed the low carbonation. I could smell a strong hop nose and very floral. Tasting it started bitter and had a smooth fruity finish. The bitter part was still lingering. Could also sense hints of grapefruit. A damn good pale ale !!

7118 Anchor Steam United States California Common / Steam 3.3

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

Had myself two Anchor Brewery beers tonight. The first one, being this Steam, poured a deep amber colour with a small head and not much lacing. It had a slight fruity and malty aroma. Flavours started smooth and then, a mild bitterness kicked in. Also had hints of nuts. This brew is their most popular. I then tested their second most popular: Liberty Ale, which I much prefered. This one was a good session beer, but not overly impressed.

7119 Heritage Traditional Dark Lager Canada Dunkel / Dark Lager 4.0

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 8

Tried this beer for the first time at Zaphod's in Ottawa, on tap, a few years ago. Was blown away ! Now I buy it in a 6 pack of stubbies. I have also bought this beer in a 20 litres and 50 litres for poker nights. Pours a dark amber-red colour with a medium beige head. Small amount of lacing. Low carbonation, but a good malt scent. Starts with a fruity-sweet taste and finishes with a mild bitter bite. Still prefer this one on tap. This brew kills the other one, Premium Lager, that they make. One of my favorite session beer.

7120 Wellington Trailhead Lager Canada Lager 3.0

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 6 | Overall: 6

"European style lager, craft brewed for the smoothness" is written on the bottle. Pours a golden colour with a good white head, and a great amount of lacing. Low on carbonation and a malt scent. Mildly bitter with a sweet (caramel) aftertaste in the back of the tongue. Wellington's least good brew, but still a good summer beer.

7121 Samuel Adams Boston Lager United States Vienna / Amber Lager 3.8

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 7

Pours a golden amber colour with a good frothy head. Nice amount of lacing. Hop and floral scent on the mild side. Low carbonation. Slight sweet taste with a bitter finish. Very pleasant smooth and creamy mouthfeel. A good alternative to this beer (in style and taste) is Creemore Spring and Heritage Traditional Dark (both from Ontario, Canada). Sam Adams Boston Lager is my favorite mass-produced American beer.

7122 Velkopopovicky Kozel Premium Lager Czech Republic Bohemian / Czech Pilsener 3.3

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

This 5.0% Czech Pilsener pours a golden colour with a good white bubbly head. The good amount of carbonation its got keeps the head alive quite some time. I smell slight malt with hints of honey. Taste starts with a mild floral bitterness, and then finishes on a nice smooth and sweet savour (while the bitter taste remains in the back of the throat). Very good refreshing Pils !

7123 St. Peters Organic Ale United Kingdom English Pale Ale 3.8

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

This is the second beer I have tasted from St. Peters Brewery, and I have to say that both experiences were quite special. It is always a pleasure to have a brew from a flask shaped bottle. Poured a light hazy amber colour with a good foamy white head. The lacing that came out of it was very original looking. After that, a thin creamy head was left over the beer. Hmmm, this beer is brewed from organic ingredients. The smell was earthy and remeinded me of some dry cat food (not unpleasant), taste was grassy and fruity on the slight bitterness. Had a clean aftertaste. Again, quite an original beer from St. Peters, but always drinkable. You must never stop at the first sip with one of their beers.

7124 Mahrs Weisse Bock Germany Weizenbock 3.8

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

Poured a really dark brown-red with a medium lasting foamy head. Smell like caramel and grapes. First sip was very sour, then became acceptable to the palate. Hints of spices. Smooth molasses finish mixed in with fig cake. Carbonation is hard to see due to hazy nature of the beer. A well brewed beer, but just not my type.

7125 Sierra Nevada Pale Ale United States American Pale Ale 3.8

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 8

Second Sierra Nevada beer of the night (the other being Summerfest). Poured an amber colour with a thin head that was short lived. Aromas of citrus and hops. Wow ! A nice blend of hops, citrus and bitterness. Extremely drinkable !! A very well balanced brew, one of the best Pale Ale I've tasted.
