26 Ayinger Celebrator Dopplebock Germany Doppelbock 4.1

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 8

Sweet nose of raisins and figs and molasses with a good bit of anise as it warms. As it warms there is some chocolate/coffee tones. Small dirty brown head that subsides leaving a skim coat sits atop a very dark brown body with a hint of ruby. Mouth is full and a bit chewy with a very nice fizz. The flavor is complex with malt and hops masterfully balanced. Taste starts dry goes a bit sweet and bitter at the same time in mid taste, finishes tart/sour and aftertaste is very dry. There are tastes of raisin, chocolate, coffee ... lots of toasty malt notes with a perfectly balanced hop bitterness. The alcohol is a bit present at the end with a nice warming. This is very similar to Aventinus and its hard to say which I prefer, will have to do a side by side tasting! Wonderful Brew, absolutely World Class!

27 Ayinger Jahrhundert Germany Helles / Dortmunder 4.2

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 8

Drank this for the first time last night followed by several other brews at an Oktoberfest dinner I threw, (yes this is not an Oktoberfest brew) so didn't have the chance to really study and rate it. However I can say it is under rated here IMHO. Will not some impressions here and come back for re-rate in the future when I can spend some serious time with this wonderful lager. Mostly malt in the nose with a hint of hops, beautiful pale golden body with tight white head. Soft medium mouth with perfect carbonation. I love the taste of this one, lost of malt; bread and biscuit with a fair amount of grass and hints of lemon, very nice balanced with he hops, dry finish, extremely drinkable!

28 Ayinger Ur-Weisse Germany Dunkel Weizen 2.9

Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 6

Aroma is Cotton Candy, Beeman's gum (yup I am that old), fruity banana esters, and some pepper. Appearance if a properly foggy orange-copper body topped by an only decent (for a weizen) off white head with mediocre retention and no lace, very disappointing. Mouth is slick but lacks the tingle that should be present, again disappointing. So, OK, first dunkel weizen for me, had a lot of hefes, which i am quite fond of. Should this beer be as sweet as it is??? Sweetness dominates that taste but it does have banana and clove lurking underneath as well as bubblegum, all appropriate except the sweetness? Slightly cloying floral finish to this which is odd, violets? Aftertaste is wet and fairly balanced, aftertaste may be that best part of this beer.

29 Back East Brewing Ice Cream Man United States IPA 3.1

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 4 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 6

yup, it does smell like an orange creamsicle. OK, i get the clouded NEIPA look but this one is apricot, murky, little head and no lace. Mouth is a bit thin for a lactose infused brew. Yup, tastes like an orange creamsicle...in a good way. Slightly off finish. This beer is way overrated on beer advocate.

30 Back East Brewing Misty Mountain IPA United States IPA 3.5

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 7

Mild nose; orange peel, hint of pine, hint of biscuit. Clear medium gold body moderate white head, minimal lace. Medium body, slightly slick and slightly under-carbonated. Nothing special in the flavor but nothing wrong either; a slightly mild Lagunitas IPA. Nicely balanced, alcohol masked, astringent clean finish, they don't list IBU's but the apparent biterness is significant. Very drinkable and sessionable for a 7%er.

31 Back East Brewing Oktoberfest United States Marzen / Oktoberfest 3.5

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

Proper nose with lots of biscuit and a hint of cotton candy. Darkish copper body with minimal head and no lace. Medium bodied low on the carbonation, good for style. Perhaps a bit sweet for a Marzen, but lots of nice grain in the mouth a slightly sweet finish, a bit hoppy but well balanced.

32 Back East Brewing Porter United States Porter 3.7

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

winey nose with hints of licorice and toasted malts. Not quite opaque dark brown body with hints of ruby topped by moderate head with moderate lace. Mouth is a bit creamy with good carbonation. Some chocolate in the flavor towards the end followed with a clean hop bitterness that finishes quite clean and dry. Somewhat raw cereal flavors that are actually quite nice predominate throughout. Flavor rounds out nicely as it warms.

33 Back East Brewing Rackautra United States IPA 4.0

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 8

Long lasting tropical NEIPA nose, sweet and dank. Milkshake appearance with decent lasting head and minimal lace, body a murky gold. Mouth is nice, a bit creamy, very nice tingle and a touch slick. Taste is tangy, pine playing against new-fangled tropical hops, a bit of a sour finish, alcohol well masked. I've heard rumor there's wheat in this brew and it seems possible. Back East is a great local(for me) brewery consistantly knocking out delightful brews.

34 Back East Rakautra United States IPA 3.8

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Nose of tangerine, passion fruit, pineapple with an underlying faint buttered biscuit. Tasty nose. This is a milkshake NEIPA, a yellow and totally clouded body with minimal head and no lace. A mouth on the low side of medium and somewhat low carbonation. Strong bite of tartness and fairly bitter leaves a tiny hint of banana at the end, almost piney in the middle, some sour apple, tobacco and leather. Very unusual profile and very drinkable.

35 Back Pasture United States Lager 4.4

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 10

Lovely pils nose. Fresh! (caned 8 days ago after 6 weeks conditioning in a foeder and around 22 weeks lagering) pasture and sour fruit , and a wiff of bubble gum. P Louise Whitehead leaving a bit of lace sits atop I'm almost clear medium Amber body Anthony. Wonderful creamy mouth chewy and slick and perfect carbonation. The flavor profile is blowing me away. Probably the best lager I've ever had. Complex yet extremely well-balanced and just a hint of sour which I think comes from the conditioning an unusually large wooden barrels. There's a little sweet towards the end with a nice sour in the middle the malts are present the Hops are subtle and probably Noble.

36 Ballantine India Pale Ale United States IPA 4.1

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Had to go down the rabbit hole to add this beer; the Ballantine brand is owned and marketed by Pabst but the brewing is consigned to MillerCoors LLC. So I saw this sitting in the singles section of my local provider and thought wait, haven't seen Ballantine in years, looked closer and it was Ballantine IPA! Had to try it. Oak and floral hops in the nose with some biscuit and pine. Pours one of the best heads I have seen in awhile, frothy and long lasting with great lace. (Can't believe that Miller knows how to do this!!!) Body is slightly hazed light copper with effervescence present. Mouth is towards full bodied and creamy. This is surprisingly bitter for 70 IBU, the grain bill is well balanced. Some tart fruit in the ending, the front is oak and leather and pepper. This is a shockingly well done IPA, hits the middle, not quite a hop-head beer but a VERY solid IPA consigned to a a macro brewer, I can hardly believe it!

37 Bass IPA United States English Pale Ale 3.4

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 5 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

Good strong nose, citrus (orange?) pepper and pine and some surprising sweet malts. Unusual reddish copper body (for an IPA) topped with decent short offwhite head leaving good lace. Mouth is medium and dry and slightly under-carbonated. Flavor..is there rye in malt bill? It is reminiscent of bass (admittedly not my favorite brew) fairly hoppy, interesting balance and flavor plays going on. Hits a bit astringent (making me think of rye) and then sweetens in mid flavor, not fruity but perhaps a bit of candy, ands dry and astringent with a slightly sweet aftertaste. Alcohol is part of the flavor complex. I wonder about the scores here, as an IPA (so labeled on the bottle) I would give it lower numbers than as BP's EPA listed here. I like the complexity and balance, pretty interesting brew. Rerate 2/20/2014 Downgrading , nose is perfumy, mouth is thin, malts are still candy, body is missing, hops minimal for even a EPA let alone an IPA.... what was I thinking?

38 Baxter Brewing Pamola Xtra Pale Ale United States American Pale Ale 3.5

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 7 | Overall: 7

Faint floral nose with a hint of citrus. Clear pale gold body is topped with a rocky wite head that is long-lasting and great lace. A light body with good fizz and slightly slick. Solid malt is bread yeast is fruity and hops are minimal and battering. Slightly buttery as it warms. Not a hop heads cup of tea but a true Pale Ale, very sessionable.

39 Baxter Brewing Stowaway IPA United States IPA 4.1

Aroma: 9 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Wow, there whole thing is everything in a can, and its not bad, no not bad at all. Aroma of Lemmon, a hint of Banana and a hint of tobacco. Medium copper body with a very nice full head that lasts and produces great lace. Good mouth, medium to slightly light, slippery and nice carbonation level. Flavor... a winner hops more present as bittering than as flavoring. Tastes really fresh, tastes the most like a home brewed beer of any commercial beer I have had. A lot of fresh green in the flavor ; must come from the double dry-hopping. This one tastes more bitter than the 69 IBU would lead you to suspect. Some grapefruit in the aftertaste, really solid malt backbone on this, almost too much for the style. Perhaps a hint of buttery like a good English Pale. I really really like this one! The 6.9% ABV is wickedly well masked.

40 Bear Republic Racer 5 India Pale Ale United States IPA 3.7

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Modest nose, some fruity notes within the malt; peach pie? Short lived head leaves good lace which sits atop a medium amber body. Mouth is medium with good carbonation level. Nicely bitter with some pine and some fresh fruity notes and good malt backbone.

41 Beck's Germany Lager 1.9

Aroma: 5 | Appearance: 3 | Mouthfeel: 4 | Flavor: 4 | Overall: 3

The quintessential euro-skunk! This used to be a favorite of mine before I drank any good beer and stacked up against Bud I guess you could understand that. Aroma is minimal-skunk, average color and head, moderate lace, slightly slimey mouthfeel, flavor is very light on the hops and in fact very light any flavor except skunk. In an average American bar (a place I spend lots of time in) this used to b the best beer you could buy. Now even my local working man's hangout at least offers some Sammie's.

42 Bell's Hopslam United States Imperial IPA 4.1

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 9 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 9

Mild nose, honey, grassy fields, biscuit. Nice frothy head not much lace atop a very warm amber body. Mouth is creamy and full with a good tingle factor and nicely slick. Bitter, green, apricot pith, wildflower honey, alcohol fairly well masked, almonds, clean dry finish. About as good as a classic DIPA gets.

43 Bell's Smitten Golden Rye Ale United States Rye Beer 3.8

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 6 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 8

Mild nose of rye malt and some grassy notes. Pours a thin head with moderate retention and some lace. Light copper body. Nice slick medium mouth on this with carbonation spot on. Superbly balanced which probably leads to a lot of downgrading here. Bells is a master balancing complex flavors. Malt and rye dominate the taste with a floral hops balance and a very dry finish but lingers and is slightly bitter. Extremely sessionable.

44 Bells Porter United States Porter 3.9

Aroma: 6 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 8

Very minimal nose presented slight hint of malted mil and an odd mustyness.. An almost opaque dark brown body with hints of Ruby highlight tapped by a tan two finger head that leaves lovely lace. Mouth is almost watery and quite carbonated. The flavor is long and drying and quite clean at the finish. Slight hints of coffee grounds and dark cooking chocolate. There's a tiny bit of sweetness that is perfectly balanced with a lot of roasted malt and a nice degree of bittering. This is really a killer Brew I just wish it presented a little more on the nose. And it's very very sessionable.

45 Bells Two Hearted Ale United States IPA 4.1

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 9 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 8

A clear deep amber body is topped by a significant white head of tight foam that lasts and laces nicely. Nose is complex with some lavender and floral notes and a fair amount of biscuit and perhaps a bit of orange peel. Mouth is a bit watery yet also creamy. Wouldn't mind a bit more fiz. Flavor is also complex. A very solid malt backbone for the style, closer to an English Pale in that regard. Nice bready flavors a bit of grapefruit, some nuts and perhaps a hint of chocolate with a bone dry and bitter finish. This is masterfully balanced for a beer that advertises hopheadedness.

46 Berkshire Ale United States American Pale Ale 3.9

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Deep malt nose, slightly roasted, carmel, prunes, vanilla. Dark clear copper body with a decent offwhite head that has good retention and minimal lace. Mouth is a bit slick, foamy, not quite chewy but close. Flavor is deep, a bit of astringency in mid taste with a sweet but clean finish.I taste some banana, dark ripe fruit, a hint of pepper and maybe a touch clove-like. Alcohol is present. Lots of malty goodness here, with very minimal hops just to balance. Sweeter than most APA's but pretty darn tasty! Reminiscent of lagunitas Brown Sugga.

47 Berkshire Cabin Fever Ale United States Strong Ale 2.2

Aroma: 4 | Appearance: 5 | Mouthfeel: 6 | Flavor: 3 | Overall: 4

This suddenly showed on on the tap at one of my locals and being a fan, generally, of BBC... Nose is pale, not a lot there, some malt. Pours a medium copper body with minimal head and no lace. Mouth is medium to think, carbonation underdone. Tastes a lot like a beer i had in St. Petersburg (Russia) a dozen years ago. Alcohol dominates the flavor, with OK middle of the road malt and very little hops. Unbelievable that at only 6.3% this is a strong ale and that alcohol is almost all you can taste! Not A Good Beer!

48 Berkshire Czech Style Pilsner United States Bohemian / Czech Pilsener 4.2

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 10 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 9 | Overall: 8

Wow, just wow! I'm not a huge lager fan but this is a wonderful beer. Nose hits with a lot of biscuit and then presents pepper and ripe dark fruit, perhaps banana and some citrus; orange and lemon, and there is a bit of vanilla there too, world class nose on this beer. Although the brew is unfiltered it presents a clear medium gold body topped with a nice eggwhites head that leaves a decent skim coat. Lace is minimal. A lot of carbonation on the mouth which is medium crisp and clean. Flavor is as complex as the nose (for a lager.) Very nice malt followed by a big Saaz pepper hit, some rich vanilla and buttery notes, followed by lemon and pepper. Leaves the pallet with a very clean dry finish. Had my first bottle of this yesterday, sitting on a friend's porch in a rocking chair watching the sun set over the green hills of CT and listening to the birds. This is an excellent American effort at creating a true bohemian style pils, first rate!

49 Berkshire Golden Spike Ale United States Kölsch 3.9

Aroma: 8 | Appearance: 7 | Mouthfeel: 8 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Reviewed from memory, drunk during Hurricane Irene. Yeast and malt predominate in the nose. Very lager-like with a medium gold body and very nice white head with god retention and decent lace. Nice medium mouth with good carbonation level. Tastes like a softer version of Berkshire's Czech style pils even thought this is an ale, nice malt a bit nutty, some ripe fruit and a hint of hops citrus. A touch sweet in the middle with a dry finish. Another excellent beer from Berkshire.

50 Berkshire Lost Sailor IPA United States IPA 3.8

Aroma: 7 | Appearance: 8 | Mouthfeel: 7 | Flavor: 8 | Overall: 8

Pretty big nose on this one, sweet malts and bready yeast are rapidly overtaken by pine and citrus hops. Medium amber body with a big offwhite head, fair retention and lacing. Medium body with plenty of carbonation. A solid malt background stands up well to this well hopped (in the English style) brew. Hops are fruity and citrus, malt is a bit sweet, very tasty, very sessionable. Goes just a bit sour towards the aftertaste, almost some Belgium like flavor there, I wonder about the yeast used. A very nicely done English style IPA.
