Loved the bottle, the contents, not so much. Quite different from the millenium in that the alcohol was less pronounced, but similar in that it had more in common with a good spirit rather than a beer.

There is a tag on the bottle that said to try before July 2011. Whoops. It being a belgian style, an extra year shouldn't hurt it. It had the makings of a champagny Belgian style tripel, but was quite muddled.

2009, 2010, and 2011 vintages. most of the Canadian beers I have tried and have been rather 'blah', this was an exception. It also seems to get better with age as the 2009 vintage was scrumptious. A black pour into the McAusland tulip with a huge creamy brown head. Nuts, roasted malt, coffee, and vanilla filled the air. Full bodied and creamy. Lots of roasted flavour as well, balanced by vanilla and bourbon. Very well done.

Loved this beer. Poured a beautiful ebony into the glass with shimmering edges and creamy head. Syrupy on the tongue. Lots of coffee, dark chocolate and roasted goodness in the aroma while the flavour is decently complex with bitter dark chocolate and coffee flavours rounded out by sweet molasses and liquorice.

2010 and 2011 vintages. A decent stout that relies too much on the barrel and not enough on the beer. Take away the barrel and the beer is rather a simple stout with coffee, chocolate and vanilla flavours. Slightly thin as well.

This is BeerPal rating #100. This is an excellent beer and certainly lived up to it's hype. The price was a bit out of this world ($35) which put a damper on it but aside from that nothing to complain about. A dark golden brown pour, reddish hints, and a generous light tan head. Yeast, and sweet fruits filled the air. Flavour was nicely balanced between the sweet malt tones, the yeasty breadiness, and while the alcohol was noticed, it was noticed in a good way. Very smooth!

I didn't like this any better than the regular version. The bitterness just overwhelms any flavour I've been able to find in other stouts. I've come to enjoy stouts, just not this one.

I find Canadian beers to be hit and miss (more miss) but this one was certainly a hit. A lot of complexity packed into this without the bitterness associated with some others. Good coffee anc chocolate balance with some vanilla and molasses hints.

I received this beer as a freebie from a friend. I need more like this. A brown pour, with a tan head which lingered. The aroma was sweet caramel malt, plums, licorice, and spices. A nice balance of sweetness and yeast in the flavour with sugary notes and malty hints.

Had a Canadian Tasting night on Friday, this was the first beer. Quite hoppy for an APA. Colour was good, consistent with style. Only complaint was the head was on the small side.
