Moving to a new server

Website Comments by FLASHPRO

The dedicated server for beerpal.com is running windows server 2008 and is no longer going to be supported by GoDaddy.com at the end of the month. I've been copying files over to a new server the last couple weeks. Most of it is up and running, but I'm sure there will be some glitches. So this is just a heads up to not worry if the site becomes unavailable soon. There might be some down time when the domain name gets changed to the new server.

I'm also testing a version on Amazon Web Services. Amazon ECS is "Virtual servers in the cloud" that charge by the hour. It's insanely easy to create, shut down, and upgrade services. I actually had a running version of this site on a virtual server in less than an hour, and it's free! The free version only gives you 1 GB RAM, but you can change that in a matter of minutes at any time. I'm impressed so far.

So far it's loading better than the old server. Fingers crossed. Still have a few more things to fix.

Ha! I saw the date was tomorrow and realized I never set the time zone on the new server. My "Time Online" is currently -156 minutes!

I had to re-approve some beers and a couple brewers the other day. A minor inconvenience, though, that I can handle.
