blighty

General Beer Discussion by BRAD_PEAR

Due to health issues....I am leaving England next week. Nothing huge, but needs addressing so I can continue to roam in future. There are many things to like about Blighty, and one of em is the Love of spuds in this country. I see numerous individuals wearing shirts emblazoned with an image of their favorite Spud. I have to say as I found out last trip, taters are way better here in flavor in general. Now grow your own, fine, hard to beat, but for varieties, flavor and texture on the open market, spuds here take the prize. After many rounds in pubs and visiting stores, one can see the dramatic influence of the Inbev buy outs and buy ins. If you find Stella in a pub, rest assure a tap of Butt Light will be there as well. I am no Stella fan, and after reading the ingredients...damn if ain't a corn brew. In stores, you see goose Island, couple other Inbev US brands, and Lagunitas IPA as it is own by Hinekan now. Regular old Buttwipper is also around. There is a Dirth of products from Germany as those folks have not succumbed to being owned by Belgies and SAB/Miller. A pleasant surprise is Budvar over here. In the states it is nothing exciting, but here Fresh gotta say WAY better then any Cez brew, EXCEPT for the Budvar Strong.Bottle says "Lagered 200 days....water from 900 meter well" 7.5% abv this is in a class by itself round here. Not hurting his elixir is it is Very Fresh least best buy 15 February 2020. Another factor is a Way shorter distance to travel and less chance of heat damage then if it comes to the States. More before I go and then reflections after I am Stateside

Good to hear from you Brad. I didn't realize you were on the other side of the pond. I haven't been there in 14 years, other than some short trips to Germany, so I'm sure the brew scene is significantly different now. Would like to get back some day.

Hit Sante Fe go to Del Charro not for brew but Damnedest Margaritas on I40...and beyond. Bot On i40 but worth the detour. Also see the "PEFIFO" Petrified Forrest...DO IT, and the PD. Painted Desert is a must. Ok in Fagstaff there are Several watering holes...just go down to main street that is the one with the Union Pacific track on it and Bob's Your Uncle. Take a radar detector and have a grand time...it is does after all mirror the Will Rodgers Highway...I run tons of weed along it in old days now it is a death trap for transporting. One thing I never went there but some place in Moriarty Jew Mexico there are signs for UFO theme brewery...might check it out.. Good stop over is Econo Lodge 2412 Carlisle Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110..take the exit...is across the street from a good Imitation of a Texas barbecue joint. A little work looking up bottle shops...ask which is closet to Carlisle eat drink be Merry...tell ya some loads been tossed in THAT parking lot LMAO. Hope this helped
