Kind of an odd name.

I'm drinking this for the first time. Since I'm pretending to be a pro taster, it's right-off-the-shelf temperature. I also have some chilling in the freezer. It's poured a clear deep copper colored body beneath a frothy head of yellowed off-white. Maybe I'm wrong, it's in fact the color of dark sand. The aroma is clean but pretty limited. I'm getting some darkly caramelish and lightly toasty malt but no hops. Perhaps some minor apple-like yeasty fruitiness. That's a little disappointing, I was expecting more, but OK, that's my fault. It's a pleasant aroma for a lager. On to the flavor... aha, I can definitely taste the molasses, or at least some dark caramel that makes me think of molasses. And that fruitiness is there along with the toasty notes. It's rather malty, and there are some hops present, leafy and floral. They're not totally in the background but they're not right up front either. It's sugary in terms of tasting like dark sugar, but it's not sweet. Sweetish, yes, but then it's balanced by a moderate bitterness that brings it to a mostly dry conclusion. It's medium to medium-light in body and gently crisp. The head has completely dropped at this point, although it held up very well to begin with, and there are only spots of lacing left behind. Wish a new micro introduced themselves with this one, to get the public's favorable attention...but with a more modest price. By the time I broke down and bought some, at the store I went to, it cost me 13.99 bt&d. To me, that's too much for a macro. But yes it's GOOD, and it's for a good cause. This cold Bud Red confirms that it's not a kissin' cousin to regular Bud in terms of flavor. Bud Red definitely has more of that. [^]
