Beerquest 2016

General Beer Discussion by SLOWRUNNER77

I've talked about this for years with a couple buddies of mine, but it's finally close to actually happening...visiting some of our favorites from the NE to Midwest United States. It will involve buying a car in Albany, NY, so it's not 100%, but I'm already doing my research 12-13 months ahead of time. The plan, likely to unfold over 7 nights/8 days: red-eye to Albany pickup car Baseball HOF & Brewery Ommegang Anchor Bar in Buffalo Southern Tier Great Lakes The Brew Kettle Kuhnhenn Founders Bells Eccentric Cafe 3 Floyds Goose Island -Clybourn Tyranena Ale Asylum New Glarus *possibly (Central Waters & Surly) Toppling Goliath Nebraska BC Great Divide (Falling Rock taphouse) Avery, Oskar Blues (Crooked Stave) Odell (New Belgium, Funkwerks) Epic - Salt Lake home Hope to meet up with a few of you on the way. Long ways from final, but once I start figuring out actual dates, I'll revisit this post.

Sprecher is cheaper, though it's bourbon aged. I like NYF better. The Sam Adams one is long retired, and a different animal altogether. I liked it more than most.

NYFRB in bottles is better, tastes more like a freshly made root beer float. Cans are good too, but tastes...well, canned. [8)] The cans come in a unique package. Small rectangular glossy paperboard carton. You might not realize it's a six pack unless you stop to examine it. Maybe Small Town is trying to start a packaging trend, who knows? [?]

[:0] IMO: If these guys ever drank Birch Beer, they would have compared the Coney brew to it right away! Birch Beer isn't as popular as Root Beer. It IS similar, but NOT the same. I'd buy the NYFRB before the CONEY any day at the same price, if I had to choose. [;)] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GiqCTs97xK4

Here's RON THERIOT's commentary on NYFRB in cans. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tdVCcP6DJ8A Isn't he digging deep to say pretty much the same thing I said? [:D] I agree with his final remarks...y'all really should try this product! [^]

I know for sure that there are cans, I have some right here. L'affaire se corse. [^] Finally! Here's a real genuine photo of A CAN of NYFRB. http://digbatonrouge.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/20150921_DIG_DRINK_NYFRB-0001-e1443028171967.jpg [8)] As I said, you really should get this in bottles instead of cans. The packaging for the cans is unique though, and it's still an enjoyable dessert drink. Chacun à son goût. [8D]

[^] Skoggit's review is in keeping with my opinion, more so than Theriot's. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ir8t8gRlpNE#t=15.779 There are at least a couple more reviews out there. I'll wanna post 'em sooner or later...maybe even now, if I watch and think they are worth it. [;)]

[8D] There are about 15 more reviews to the right of Skoggit's! See for yourself, and watch whatever you want to.
