True honey flavor will only be detectable if added to the beer post fermentation since it's nearly 100% fermentable. Honey malt is available, but I've never used it so can't comment on it's impact.

[8D]OK, I think I understand. Slowrunner is referring to a recipe where honey is an actual ingredient, but added post fermentation because the yeast eats up almost all sugar in brewing. Honey Malt..."Honey" is a flavor description; there is no actual honey involved. "Chocolate" Malt...same thing, right? [:D] http://www.northernbrewer.com/shop/gambrinus-malting-corporation-honey-malt.html#tab-review I've thought about trying home brewing from time to time...but right now would not be the time. [8)]

Honey IS involved, just not fermented. They are replacing some of the malt with honey...instead of "just" balancing the hops with malt. Try it out if you get the chance. One of my favorite hoppy beers ever.

I have meads over 15 years old still working. Honey is Slow to ferment...unless you use champagne yeast.

I'm doing an Olde (Beerpal) Tyme beer tasting RIGHT NOW...it's one of ShockTop's latest seasonal @ Wally. [:D] Spiced Banana Wheat pours a generous beige foam with some aroma resembling bananas. It's very cloudy...even more opaque than the Belgian White...and a deeper darker amber in color. Sort of creamy, and I'm unsure if the banana dominant part seems real or artificial? Honey also, and some spices vaguely. This is definitely a sweet dessert drink, very little harshness or even bitterness...goes down very easy. I'd say it's a decent drinkable crafty, and I'm gonna go get me another...the first one was gone in a few minutes. [8D] This one's at room temp (the other was freezer chilled for 40 min.) and I'm trying to be like Mr. Pro Taster here! Gotta give it credit; it doesn't suddenly taste like sweaty socks because it's not cold! The taste and creamy character are still intact The foam is more bubbly and fades more quickly. If anything, this beer tastes EVEN SWEETER when it's warm. Shame on me, I'm practically slamming this stuff even though I'm not into speed drinking. Conclusion: This brew has GOT to get tiresome quickly because it's so sweet. But is it worth knocking down a few now and then? I would say YES. [^] This seasonal 12'er also contains 3 Belgian White, 3 Lemon Shandy, and 3 Honeycrisp Apple Wheat. I may have tried all of 'em before, but the above ^ is a "Limited Edition BEER FESTIVAL BREW". [|)]

[;)] OK, I wanted to try something different (for me, it's different) so I bought an 18 can pack of Labatt Blue Light Lime which is made by Genny and here's a link so I don't have to try and trace all this "names" stuff! [:0] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genesee_Brewing_Company It's a counterpoint to this thread because LBLL isn't sweet. It doesn't taste like beer, it's like a good lime seltzer. REFRESHING is a word used...even by reviewers who don't like the stuff...and I agree. 4% abv unsweetened lime seltzer. The lime is more present at room temp, and the seltzer character is more noticeable when the can is colder. Either way, it is what it is. At $12.28 bt&d I'll probably get more...especially for those 90 degrees F summer days! Btw a quick overview of ratings/reviews indicates that FOR ITS CLASS it's considered better than most. [:)]
