High end spirits

Non-Beer Discussion by STOUTLOVER72

With the recent thread on spirits, what's the most you've ever spent on a distilled beverage or what's the most expensive shot of something you've ever had. Recently, I was able to sample this beauty and all I can say is wow...wowowowow.. http://www.blacktot.com/

[:)] Finally tried Great America Peach...now I've drank all four varieties! Imo Peach is the best. Apple Pie and Strawberry are good too. Clear is too bare-bones for the price. But drinkable, nevertheless. [8)] At room temp Peach aroma isn't sweet peaches; you can tell that it's fermented. Not a turnoff, not a stench, just..."28 Proof In Effect Here"... Tastes of sweet peaches, some coconut also. The alcohol flavor isn't so very strong; maybe the sugary peaches cover it? [:p] Great American is packaged in 23.5 oz "moonshine" jars, to make it look like a down-home product. No, it's actually mass market, and I bought my latest one @ Wally rather than the gas mart which beat Wally to the punch! [:o)]

[:0][:0][:0] I just watched 3 videos in succession of a big white guy, a little Asian guy, and a big black guy drinking down LARGE bottles of serious liquor in like, less than two minutes !!! 1. No, I'm not gonna try this at home. 2. No, you should not try this at home. 3. No, I'm not gonna post the links...I don't wanna "inspire" anyone to try doing this sh_t themselves...!!! [B)][8][xx(]

[^] I discovered a useful application for those Great America Malt Specialties! If you use DE as a nutritional supplement, these beverages are Great for masking the chalky taste. [xx(] http://www.richsoil.com/diatomaceous-earth.jsp [8)] Oh...Yes, DE is high in calcium and contains a number of trace minerals too. The above link provides info on some of its other uses. I started adding it to the cat's litter box, and later I found out that it wasn't merely HARMLESS, but actually HEALTHY for human consumption. [:)] [8D] Look it up!

[?] Not sure if it's beer, not sure who makes it...feedback? http://drinkfour.com/facebook/411/loko_fp.html Bought my first one today; don't think I've seen it before. The link shows 2011 and a variety of flavors. So, here's my 2 cents. [;)] $3.28 w/t&d. Weird size 23.5 oz and weird proof 24. Smells very Hawaiian Punch. Pale clear violet pink with quick fizzy carbonation. VERY SWEET, VERY TART, like that candy brand named Sweet//Tart or whatever. It's cold from the store cooler, and I don't smell or taste alcohol. It's there, but it gives more of a fast-acting head buzz than a gut-warming sensation. I dunno...drinkable if you want very sweet and very tangy. No beer flavor. It may be a beer or a malt beverage by definition. [8)]

Wally has added Lemonade to the Great American lineup, and of course I had to try it. [;)] Thumbs up = First Impression! It's a balanced...perhaps bland to some palates...lemonade flavor. Not overly sour nor sweet. I'm impressed by the fact that, even at room temp, the alcohol isn't a flavor factor. Gut-Warming 28 proof. Sin Quejas! [:)] P.S. It's in the freezer now...wanna taste it ICE COLD, enfoque correcto? [8)] I don't recommend it ice cold. It has better flavor at room temp, but having tasted it again it's more like powdered lemonade mix than fresh. I think some will prefer it over the sweeter flavors. [8)]

[8)] I found GREAT AMERICA Blueberry ON SALE today...probably the only reason I decided to risk it![:0] [xx(] I've had poor results with blue alcohols. Mr. Boston has one, Blue Hurricane is another. I won't get 'em again. This one is no big treat, but it IS more drinkable. [8)] At room temp it's got some blueberry, a sharp alcohol flavor, and something else not-quite-describable. Not gross, not good, just...there. [:o)]

Perhaps...not especially fit for this thread...but how many beerpal threads are Good-Whiskey-Appropriate ? [?][8)][;)] http://www.proof66.com/whiskey/ezra-brooks-90pf-bourbon.html The skinny = $16.99 bt for a liter of 90 proof sour mash bourbon whiskey. [8D] Really nice. I wasn't expecting it to be smooth OR free of rotten aftertaste. I sometimes bought cheap sour mash for its compatability in VanillaVanilla Cream sodas...the sh_t aftertaste actually accentuated the VANILLA, in a way that I don't understand. [:o)] Like Jack, which isn't as tasty, it's too good for cream sodas...the better flavor really screws it up (ironically). [8)] I dumb-luck picked this up locally, for the Sour Mash and 90 Proof qualities. GREAT FIND !!! [^][^][^]

Agreed. Good bourbon for the money. I also find Evan Williams to be solid for the price.

"Agreed. Good bourbon for the money. I also find Evan Williams to be solid for the price." I'll remember that. I've seen EW whiskies around here but I've only tried the honey flavor. Might take awhile though; I'm not a very frequent whiskey drinker. [8)]

[:)] Had some Vanilla Bean ice cream and Vanilla cream soda here. So, went to liquor store and found a $10.99 bt liter of cheap sour mash...TEN HIGH KENTUCKY, 80 proof. Harsh, BLEH! aftertaste. PERFECT FOR A SPIKED ICE CREAM FLOAT !!! [8D][^][:D] [;)] Long time since. Used an oversized heavy duty professional-looking shot glass, that I found at the old homestead. No idea where it came from; parents were both virtual teetotalers? The glass holds 5.3 oz. http://www.answers.com/Q/How_many_ounces_is_one_shot_of_alcohol [:p] Just polished off the second tumbler of Vanilla/Vanilla Cream soda. Less bitter/sour bourbon flavor this time, as I cut back on the whiskey. Happy is me. [|)] http://whiskey-reviews.com/2011/12/ten-high-bourbon/ See how it ranks compared to others of its ilk: http://deadspin.com/cheap-bourbons-ranked-1468454287
