Sours

General Beer Discussion by GGRUMET

Sours are among my favorite style of ales, but I know they are a polarizing style for many. When I first got into craft I often scoffed at some fruit lambics, like Lindemans Framboise, and stuck to more straightforward ales and lagers. That mindset was quickly reversed as I ventured into the world of Oud Bruin, Flanders Red, and Gueuze and often cannot get enough. Based on my reviews, I believe that Drie Fonteinen Schaerbeekse Kriek is my highest rated sour. I've had some that I have not reviewed that I hold in fond memory - Lou Pepe Gueuze comes to mind. Russian River is often the pinnacle of American sours, but wild ale I've had from The Bruery, Allagash, Ithaca, and New Belgium have been top tier as well. Just this past week I had Filmishmish from The Bruery and enjoyed it greatly. What say all of you on sours? What is your preferred 'style' of sour? More importantly, what's your favorite sour to date?

This. This is taking place May 5 in Nashville. I'm definitely going to be there. The South has embraced Sours. Maybe it's the persimmon love thing.

Wow, what a lineup! Never had a strawberry lambic before. Looking at all the great new beers available, I am thinking I would have saved the strawberry till last... Makes me wonder how it would rank in a blind tasting, i.e., how much of my reticence is tied to the thought of strawberry, vs. the actual aroma and taste of it. Did you try the Rufus? Really impressed with Yazoo's offerings. From the names alone: YUM! <will now search the Vault and Untappd for reviews>
