Beer Madness 2013
Beer Events by FOAMDOME
"The [Washington] Post's seventh annual beer tourney, built on a March Madness-like basketball bracket, pits 32 regional brews in head-to-head match-ups based on styles." As in the past two years, Greg Engert's style guide serves as the means for sorting the beers into "regions" like hop, fruit & spice, crisp, and roast. It's awesome that there are enough local brewers in the National Capitol Region that the Post can fill the 32-beer field with locally brewed contenders! http://www.washingtonpost.com/beer-madness A panel of Post readers and Washington food-beverage experts judged the rounds in two separate sessions. The Post has been reporting on the round-by-round results on Wednesdays. You can vote for your favorites in each match-up and then see how well you did when the panel's blind-tasting votes are published. Public voting is open for the Elite Eight until the results are published on April 10th. The Final Four will be announced on the 17th. The winner will be divulged April 24. So visit the link and check out the offerings! Who do you think should win out? My money's on Face Plant IPA. http://www.washingtonpost.com/beer-madness

My bracket is blown but Beer Madness is still fun to follow. The Final Four have been announced. Maryland (two entries), Virginia (one) and Delaware (one) remains alive in the Battle of the Chesapeake. http://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/food/beer-madness-round-3-picks-the-final-four/2013/04/08/f9b71b36-9be6-11e2-9bda-edd1a7fb557d_story.html This week, we'll learn which two beers advanced to next week's Championship.
And the winner is ... Double Dog Double Pale Ale by Flying Dog Brewery, Frederick, MD I have enjoyed this big brew twice, but not lately. May just have to give it another whirl. Here are my tasting notes: 7 oz bottle, Canis Major Mixed Pack ('09). 12 oz bottle in a 4-pack ('10). 11.5% abv, 85 IBUs. Hop-heavy aroma. Full-frontal bitterness yields to a touch of sweetness in the flavor. Super strong but well-balanced and enjoyable. Again, I would not have picked this beer to win, but that just goes to show you, beauty is in the eye of the beer holder. Cheers!
I was holding off on approving more pics until everything got moved to the new site. I haven't been able to log into the server lately, which means I can't work on the site code, so the other day I did some pic and brewery approvals! There are still 185 brewery photos left to approve. Most are from 2014!
All brewery photos are processed! They all have the obnoxious www.beerpal.com watermark on them. I decided not to use that on the new site. Luckily, I keep all of the original submitted files so I was able to copy those without to the new site without the watermark.
