Base Camp Brewing Company
Brewery Discussion by FLASHPRO
A guy at work invited a group of us to this brewery in Portland last night. I already had plans to go downtown and meet up with some others for dinner, so 2 of us hopped on the bus to Base Camp just go grab a quick beer.
That quick beer turned into hours when the owner, Justin, started giving us a tour of his newly opened facility. Since our group of 4 are all engineers, and I have done a lot of biotech, he was all excited and really proud to show how he personally built and designed his systems. Pretty impressive for such a young guy. And the beer was good too. My only regret was only getting one beer because we were distracted by the back room.
I definitely have to go back there!

It is a BEAUTIFUL space. Definitely a lot of money behind that operation. While they are still working out all the bugs, I have a lot of faith in these guys that they are going to be making some solid beer in a few months. Really passionate, young dudes that care a hell of a lot of about their brewery. It shows too. Portland beer geeks are quick to judge when a new brewery opens with beer that's not super innovative or a little flaw here and there. It takes a little while before brewers get a good rhythm going. Glad you had a good experience. But next time make the 1 mile trek down to visit me. [;)]

I dug the space. The baby firepits in the back were nice too.

I was thoroughly impressed by Base Camp. Good beers, great branding, great vision. Justin is on top of things and will be a player for a long time in the Portland beer scene. We visited very late and Justin wasn't quite on top of his game but he indulged phishpond, pfoxyjohn and me and gave us the full tour, even the "lab". Glad folks with this passion and knowledge are in the industry. Kudos to Base Camp.

Bringing a new friend this year, so we plan on revisiting places like this, and hitting up a few new ones as well...

My favorite thing about Base Camp was the "growler" that Jason had fashioned from reused brewery equipment. Travis has a super cool pic of that awesomeness. Would love to revisit.
