2004 in Review--A Year of Beer

General Beer Discussion by FOAMDOME

2004 in Review--A Year of Beer Inspiration for this thread comes from Brett, who has tried somewhere north of 450 new beers this year alone! Amazing. How about you? As the year draws to a close, look back on your year in beer, and share some of your stats! I have tried 198 new beers this year, compared to 73 last year. Joining BeerPal has really given me an incentive to find and talk about better beer. This year, I have tasted beers from 12 countries outside US and 22 states within US. My logbook now has 549 entries beginning with that first fateful Schlitz. My "passport" now has entries for 21 countries and 28 states. 2004 was a great year in beer. The search for brewed Nirvana continues... On to GABF 2005!

I currently stand at 756 new beers tried for this year. I should hope to rock 4 more to get an even 760 for this year. Indeed it was a very good year. I travelled to Chicago for the Real Ale Fest, that didn't happen. But it was still an awesome time. Went to Denver for the GABF, and that kicked ass. Some of my faves from this year are BA Speedway Stout and Old Numbskull (thanks again Scott!), Pizza Port (San Clemente) Doheny Double IPA, Iron Hill Barleywine, Newport Storm 00, *CASK* (not bottle, which tasted like pennies) 3F's DARK LORD, Pizza Port Cuvee de Tomme, AleSmith IPA, Barley Johns Dark Knight Imperial Porter, and I guess Avery The Beast makes a top 10 fave list. Who knows what 2005 will bring? Cheers Eric

760! Great job, E. I only wish I had access to that many brews to sample. If you ever need another liver... it probably shouldn't be mine. Also should give some props to Jonmoore. I think he has reviewed nearly all of his beers this year - 563. Props to Cottrell for reviewing almost 350 beers this year. I can't imagine what he'll accomplish in 2005 without the legal restraints he faced in 2004 (happy birthday). As for Vac, your beers reviewed list is too damn long to sort through so I don't know how many reviews you have for 2004, but congrats on your 100's of reviews this year, too. Foamdome - thanks for the gifts of beer. With my limited selection here, I need all the trades I can get! You're an asset to the site, and I'm glad you joined. Nstallmaster - If you'd only been around all year! 193 reviews in 83 days. And while I'm passing out the kudos. Thanks to Flash, Chopz, Pksmith and Southerncoronas for all their contrbutions to the forums and chats. It's been a fun year. Lastly, thanks to Hannah for participating in such a fun hobby with me. Cheers to a great 2005

In Reply To #1 For three weeks on the site, and three months of being legal, this has been a great way to set up next year. Brad Pear, you had it right with your first post. FoamDome, thanks for the welcome, and happy b-day. Cottrell, Good call on the homebrew discussion, I'd like to see more of that on this site! This Christmas break I'm attempting my first brew (APA) as little family project (and happy b-day). Cheers to 2005 "Ah beer, my one weakness. My Achilles heel if you will." - Homer J. Simpson

In Reply To #6 Hey Drew, thanks for the good words, and welcome to the wonderful word of homebrewing. Let us know how everything goes, and if you ever have a question about brewing, no matter how dumb you think it is, feel free to ask. We've all done stupid things homebrewing, most of which could have been prevented if we had just asked someone more experienced. I hope to see more posts from you in 2005 than we did in 2004. This site could use more forum active users. :) As for my year in beer, this was by far the biggest year in beer for me so far. I really got into homebrewing, tried hundreds of new beers, and finally, finally turned 21. I definitely plan on making 2005 a huge year in beer, starting ASAP. I'm at about 350 reviews right now, and I hope to hit 500 by the end of March. My homebrewing will certainly pick up even more, and I plan on brewing over 100 gallons this year, unless school gets super busy like my last semester did. Well, congrats to everyone on their 2004 milestones, but I think we can all do better. Everyone here should be a Beer Idol by the end of 2005. Well, except E and Vac... they should be, uhm... double Beer Idols? ;)

2004 was a big year for me. Personally, I rated 163 beers (not including another brewpub I hit up on new years eve). Considering I rated only ELEVEN in 2003, that's good for me lol. I also hit 500 just before the end of the year. On a higher level, I'm proud of the accomplishments of the site. To put things into perspective, the site had a total of 2540 reviews in 2003. 2004 saw a surge of 12,841! General activity has increased ten fold, and with the release of the new site layout, we should expect even more for 2005. I also have to thank the BP Crew members for their help. Information on the site is immensely more accurate now. It would have never happened without them!

In Reply To #9 Flash, it was a good year for beer, and for BeerPal. Thanks for providing a place for a global community of beer lovers to talk about their quest for brewed Nirvana! Happy hunting in 2005.
