Saw Works Brewing Co.

Industry News by BLUESANDBARBQ

Next week, Marble City Brewing Co. will become Saw Works Brewing Co. Tired of fighting litigation from Marble Brewing in New Mexico, Saw Works Brewing is a new start for these guys, with a new Brew Master, new beer choices focusing on English-style from their English brewing system, distribution outside the Knoxville area and a new bottling line. It's sad to see Marble City go, name change-wise, but better consistency, better beers, a better Brew Master and limitless opportunities mean a new beginning. Plus an influx of cash from a very good local source will help solidify their growth. I'll report more next week when this becomes official.

Agreed. The new Brew Master was trained on the English brewing system that they house. Batches should be more consistent than in the past, which they had some issues with. I already have a growler of their English IPA from their small batch. I really dig it. And have tried their ESB. Things are looking up for them, for which I'm glad. They won't have anything hanging over their heads either. The name comes from the old building they're in - it was the old Wallace Saw Works bldg from the 1940s up into the 70s. Still old sign painted on the back of their bldg. I'm SURE they're still going to brew the Spiced Pumpkin Ale - that is their most popular seasonal.

It's always sad when two groups of people can't co-exist in the same environment. It's even sadder that corporations (large or small) feel the need to believe that all their customers are stupid. Yes, there will be times that somebody will mention a beer's name and a responder will say "Marble or Marble City"? A quick look at the label would solve that problem. Seriously, isn't it possible that somebody mixes up the name of Flying Dog and Flying Fish, they both start with Flying (just as Marble and Marble City start with Marble)? How many people would score a perfect 10 on the corporate owner of the items in their bathroom (pharmaceuticals, toothpaste, shampoo, etc). Johnson and Johnson, Proctor and Gamble, Colgate-Palmolive etc all have similar named products in similar lines of business..........all people care about is the product itself. I think beer is the same...........nobody says "Labatt Blue", or "Molson Canadian", or "Negra Modelo Corona", they refer to it by it's brand. So long as the 'brands' they carried were different, there shouldn't have been that much of an issue. Now, where's my pint of Pliny the Elder? (and I have no idea who brews it without looking it up)
