Crabbie's Original Alcoholic Ginger Beer

Beer Discussion by CYRENAICA

BeerPal Notice: This topic was created for discussion of the beer Crabbie's Original Alcoholic Ginger Beer. Why is this in the database? It's three primary ingredients (as listed on the back) are carbonated water, sugar and alcohol (and also includes caramel colour and potassium chloride). No grain was harmed in the creation of this beverage, or hops (although yeast is an ingredient). So - pure water is NOT an ingredient - no malted grain of any type was used - no hops - alcohol added directly and not as a byproduct of fermentation If Zima can't be here, this shouldn't be here either (and it doesn't taste very good either).

I agree. Ginger beers are not beers, any-more than Mike's Hard Lemonade is. Just because the word "beer" is in the title, doesn't make it a beer.

There are a great number of 'ginger' beers which are real beers, it is a very traditional style originating in the north of Britain, including many of the original IPA recipes that made their way from England to India (see Terry Foster's "Pale Ale" for more details). Sadly, North Americans have had cola like concoctions for the last hundred years or so which are nothing like Bath Ginger Hare or Naylor's Ginger Beer (both of which would be spiced pale ale's in beer judging terms). These beers are primarily pale ales (some are bitters) with ginger added. No carbonated water, no added sugar, etc.

Not a beer, but this is one that blows other ginger beers out of the water because even in its lightest forms it is hot. It's the only ginger ale that made me want to sip it rather than guzzle it. Blenheim's Ginger Ale Every time I think of it I rue not living in South Carolina. I stand corrected. I should have stated that most American made, mass produced ginger beers aren't beers at all. But your point is well stated about there being true ginger beers. Unfortunately, the market is saturated with alcopops like this, that can confuse the consumer.

They shouldn't be allowed to call it beer, bastards! So no shock it was approved. Hell it might have been me who did it. If it's an alcopop it does need to go. Flash is the only one who can delete a beer once it's approved though.
