Beerpal Ads
Website Comments by PHISHPOND417
Got a question about how they work exactly. If someone is to click on an ad that's on BP, does that give the site money or does it give the company, who's advertising, money therefore they give site dough in return. I do realize the more traffic flow there is the more it might be worth it for someone to advertise on BeerPal. The reason I ask is because if more people click an ad on BP does the site look better and does that somehow generate interest among other companies that may want to advertise on Beerpal? If that's the case, I'll be sure to click on every ad I see if it puts more money into the BP fund. holy hell...how about those typos? Wasn't even drinking...

That is like the adbusters campaign to click on all the sponsored links on google as much as you can to cost those large corporations money!

I don't know the exact mechanisms, but every ad you click does directly help beerpal, and the higher the number of clicks, I'm sure that increases beerpal's www clout too. So, I think both direct and indirect mechanisms benefit from each click.
Google uses proprietary algorithms to calculate all the ads. I know a little bit about how it works because I also have an advertising account. The advertisers have comprehensive tools to allow them to choose how much they want to spend per day, maximum per click, and what sites they do or don't want their ads to be displayed on. I also know that each click, even for the same ad, varies greatly. Sometimes dollars, but other times pennies! What's also interesting is that the earnings are estimated because they can, and usually do, change value during the day after they've been clicked. For some reason they tend to increase a few cents. Obviously, some of the advertisers cost per click goes to Google and the rest goes to the website displaying the ad. I read estimates a while ago and can't remember the percent, but it was something like 50% or 70% of the revenue gets passed on to me. Now I will tell you all something very important. Google claims to have extraordinary algorithms to detect fraudulent clicks. It probably tracks IP addresses and uses cookies. It also specifically says people who repeatedly click on ads will not have their clicks count at all! They know exactly what a website's click thru ratio should be, which is on the order of 1% (meaning for every 100 ads displayed, 1 gets clicked on). I'm sure they'd cancel any account that suddenly started seeing 10% or 5% ratios. The amount of data Google has is pretty insane. They have unrelated webmaster tools that many large sites and companies use to see stats on their visitors. What you do is put a little piece of code on each of your pages that pings Google, and that lets Google record everything about every visitor. It's very useful for the webmaster but also Google! Did you ever notice that you can search for something on Google and just like magic you will start seeing ads on any website you go to that advertises what you searched?
I have always wondered how that worked. I have seen the amplifier I had been examining show up in ads on a dozen different webpages. I figured it had something to do with my cookies because I had never clicked on any of the ads.
