Untappd

Website Comments by RAINMAN

My daughter sent me this - the download for Android is over 10,000 since Sep 29th. Haven't tried it yet, just noticing the trend toward mobile apps.. Join the Social Network for Beer Lovers Mixing social networking with alcohol can be a recipe for a regretful morning-after, with poorly-worded wall posts and oversharing tweets littering the news feeds of friend and coworkers. But that's no reason to ignore a new mobile app that invites users to share favorite beers with friends and “drink socially” online. http://untappd.com/, released last week by the website of the same name, was created by a mix of tech geeks and craft beer enthusiasts to provide a haven for beer lovers everywhere. It combines the friending system of Facebook, the check-in service of Foursquare, and the sharing and rating function of Yelp. Users virtually hang out in “the pub” and can share whatever beer they're sipping, their location, and a picture of the beverage in all its frothy glory. Friends on the app can then “toast” the check-in, the equivalent of a Facebook “like.” Untappd also aggregates data on which beers are trending, categorized by microbrews or macrobrews, and organized by location. For example, trending beers near the GOOD office in Hollywood today include several Dogfish Head brews. If you’re curious about a certain beer, you can click on it to get more information, including reviews and ratings posted by other aficionados. Then you can add it to your brew wish list to help you remember which six-pack to pick up on Friday night. And if you need beer in every aspect of your life, you can easily connect Untappd to your Twitter, Facebook, and Foursquare as well. Disclaimer: Drink and social network at your own risk. Which beers are trending in your town? Let us know on GOOD.is Image via (cc) Flickr user Egan Snow

I do NOT pay attention to their recommendations. They are laughable. Like kinger says, I use it as a file cabinet.

While we're waiting on the new BeerPal site, Untappd has developed nicely, IMHO. I am using it regularly on my phone. In the past, it was a bit wonky. I had to use a 3rd party application to find beers and venues, or worse, transcribe field notes using my home computer. Now, Untappd is integrated with Foursquare, Twitter, and Facebook. About the only complaint I have is some difficulty uploading photos from time to time. My profile is here: https://untappd.com/user/FoamFan. Some evidence of my appreciation for this site:
 • Unique Beers: 250
 • Friends (many from BeerPal): 60
 • Badges: 50
 • Photos: 40
 • Breweries I follow: 10
Any other BeerPals finding this a useful tool?

Absolutely. I use regularly. Especially to keep up with friends and new beers that I've tried while out. Also have found new local beer friends thru this app. Good mobile beer tool.

BUT you might give a shit if I were drinking a Corona on a cruise ship in the Caribbean at 3:40am ET, because if I was, you know I am hammered and about to be lost at sea after puking over the rail.
