Caribbean and Cuban pairings

Beer and Food by BLUESANDBARBQ

Ok gurus, what will go well with Jerk _______(pork or chicken most likely), Cuban Sandwiches, Pineapple Chix, Coconut Shrimp and a few other goodies? Is there any beer from down that way worth picking up just to have a few with our Caribbean Night at Supper Club? Mostly trying to pair some good beers with food though. Thoughts?

I'll say it again....Saison, one the best beer styles to pair with most any type of food. Here I think the spicy yeast from the saison would compliment the sweet and spicy heat from the jerk.

oh yes, that would most definitely work a good amber ale as well.

I agree with that assessment Cory. Saisons usually pair well with most foods. Finding saisons around here is not an easy task. I could have gotten some Hennepin but I might have been the only one to drink it (not a bad thing!). I have to take baby steps with this group. They slowly are coming around to good beers. Even had my brother-in-law trying a DIPA the other night; you'd a thought his taste buds exploded and the enamel was removed from his teeth the way he reacted. Let's just say he thought it was a wee bit bitter and strong for him. The one that brought me the New Glarus, she loved the DIPA. That couple is all-inclusive beer wise. Baby steps with the rest of them though.

I would say really anything crisp, clean, low hoppage and zero roastyness. A quality German pilser would be outstanding..Spaten, Hofbräu, Paulaner, DAB...all excellent choices. But the one that would really be impressive..Dogfish Head Festina Peche. Hennepin would also be a knockout.

only if DFH were still available in TN... Yes, very good choice! I love that beer in hot weather. Would've paired very well with our dishes. And Saison? I picked up a growler of the rare Tennessee-only release of Sierra Nevada Bonnaroo Brew last night. I can hardly wait to try it!
