$30 brews at the ballpark?

General Beer Discussion by BLUESANDBARBQ

Indians selling $30 beer at Progressive Field I like Hoppin' Frog and Brew Kettle, but I'll stick to swill before I pay that much. At least they do have some available.

Baseball has had problems in the past with drunken riots. One was at a Cleveland game actually http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ten_Cent_Beer_Night I believe one reason they price beers sky high is to discourage people from wanting to buy more than a few. Yeah it's always the drunk jackasses that ruin it for everybody. With that being said, $30 is way too much. If they are only selling a few dozen beers a night, common sense and economics will tell you the price should go down.
LOL I can't imagine ever going to an event like that. But what the heck was with Disco Demolition Night? The White Sox hosted the Tigers in 1979 with 98 cent admission if you brought a disco record to be blown up in a crate between the double header games. They hoped for 12,000 people but 90,000 showed up. People started throwing records like frisbees from the stands LOL.
mtv yeeeears back did a special on disco demolition night... hilarious stuff!! disco sucks! disco sucks!! and 30 bucks is a joke...

While in St. Louis I took in a Blues v. Red Wings hockey match... Bud Light $8 a cup... no thanks... I'd had enough Schlafly to last me a while.

last time i was in a stadium, options were 8 dollar bud lite 12ozers or 12 dollar 16ozers.. so my buddies girl friend snuck in a bottle of vodka in her purse, a 1.75L for some reason and we went to town... ..i can honestly say i have no clue who won, ...or where all my friends went... or even why i woke up covered in glitter in a water bed 50 miles from my house and not one person i knew, ... who knew MLS soccer games could have such interesting results...

This isn't quite as bad, but one night a group of us from work were at the airport early, so we hung out at a bar. I joked that the beer we ordered was probably $10. When we got the bill it was actually $11! I honestly thought it would more like $8, but now I know better lol. At least it was a tall glass, maybe 20oz.

How could they be pleased? How could they NOT be pleased...they made $120 on four sales...Thanks guys...you have guaranteed this will spread to other parks because people will rise to the demand. ...just in case I needed one more reason to hate baseball...

Well looks like they are marked up about 3x the retail prices: Hoppin Frog - $10 Buckeye - $6 Brew Kettle - $5 BMC is what now a days, about a $1 a bottle tops at retail so these products are marked up at least 5x to 8x at the ballpark. Just to put it in perspective I guess, don't pay for Hoppin Frog in the stores and I wouldn't pay for any beer at a pro ball park these days. Good luck to whoever got that genius move approved.

The article said what their markup was, and that the craft ones were only about a 3x markup. But you do have to remember that even at a 2x markup they are probably only breaking even. The vendor pays out the a$$ to sell there. You can probably blame the league for most of the problem.
