on the front in Afganistan....

Non-Beer Discussion by RAGNAROK

Been here for 6 weeks now. Rough place to be. Been out on patrol, getting shot at, and worse - NO BEER!!! I still have the memory of drinking my cellar stock before leaving, though. Wish I could have saved Bitches Brew for a better occasion.... 4 months left to go till Mid-tour. Till then, keep drinking those brews!!!

I don't think she was running for refreshments. That's Audrey Tomason, the Director for Counterterrorism in the Executive Office of the President. And when the movie is made, yes, John Lithgow should probably play the role of Tom Donilon, national security adviser.

Debra Jo Rupp (I think her name is) should play Clinton... hell, Gene Hackman has to be in there somewhere.

Actually, Gene Hackman could play Hillary. Striking similarities.

UPDATE: The first 90 days are past us. So far our Squadron has taken 3 KIA, and 18 WIA. 4 Medics have been WIA so far. As you all know I am a Medic. Today the ANA (Afgan National Army) took 1 KIA and 4 WIA in an IED strike. We treated them and put them on a bird. As far as the threat hijacking - too funny!!! Our most recent KIA was two days ago. So raise your glasses to our Fallen. I was checking in here earlier today when I got told about the casualties coming in. So until the next 'contact' (bad guys shooting at us) stay safe my friends.

Ragnarok: It's nice to hear from you and get a sense that you are only a few electrons away. Your update notes are important to us here at home, and hopefully our chatter is helpful to you and your comrades on the front. Keep your head down, man. Do what you gotta do and come home safe. You'll have mid-tour in a couple months, right? I know you are looking forward to it. I have noticed that my neighbors and co-workers who've never been to Iraq or Afghanistan like to complain about how their job sucks or how the weather is so hot and muggy or how the fries in their Happy Meal are not hot enough. We're a spoiled and pathetic lot. So just be prepared for that when you come home. It's a little disconcerting at first. What most folks around here complain about is almost enough to make a man nostalgic for war. Almost. Someday, not now but someday, you'll realize the many ways that your experiences in A'stan changed you--changed what matters to you. Give it some time. It's all good. Till then, take the war one day at a time, do what you gotta do, and come home safe. Medics like you are heroes. God bless you, Ragnarok, and your fellow medics, and your Squadron. God bless and keep you all. Foam

The complaining I am going to hear will be music to my ears. Why, you ask??? Because those that do complain have not had the misfortune to know what we are going through here in the 'stan. Nor do they know what it is like to really be oppressed and live in fear from the Taliban. I have engaged the Taliban and He is an Evil thing. Ya feelin me?? As far as coming home - this is my 4th tour (2nd combat tour). I know the changes, been there done that. Skydiving is my escape and balance. It saved my life when I came back from Iraq back in 2005. Life goes on, my friend. "The Tree of Liberty must, from time to time, be watered by the blood of Tyrants and Patriots." (or something like that) I will make sure I water it with the Tyrants blood and hopefully not my own.....

Right you are, my friend. I have no problem spilling the tyrants blood personally. My Troops do a good job of that. Makes my day to hear they got another enemy Taliban KIA..... Praise the Lord, and pass the ammunition!!!
