Christmas brew

General Beer Discussion by SKANADIAN

Since I am the one hosting Christmas this year and its usually customary for the host to bring out the nice wine and spirits, I thought it a good time to bring out some new beer to the family. Anything you could recommend that would fit in the spirit of Christmas? Both for seasoned beer drinkers and those who are usually go for the swill? A nice variety would be good - from something simple to a full bodied dessert beer.

Thanks Oiz, I was looking for something like this but either a) looked in the wrong place or b) missed it Too bad I cant get most of it here, but at least it gave me an idea of styles. Cheers, and Merry Christmas yourself!

I just had Bush Noel (Scaldis Noel). It is a tremendous Belgian ale and is very warming as well as strong. If you can find it I would recommend you pick some up![:I]

More cheap then crap, Winter Traum from Weltenburg, and Special from Forst makes for great "session" biers. Score for the holidays: cases of Assam Bock from Weltenburg, Maibock from Willbrau-Franken, and Helles aus Aktein. The Assam is a month old, helles theree, and the Maibock last Mai.Kosher turkey and a large fire for solstice. Also my son kicked down some "medical" for an extra smile.

I got some of the Abita Christmas Ale in my Beer of the Month shipment. I drank one last night, and it was pretty good.

Biere de garde is a good choice I agree Chimay blanc is also good. A flemish sour could be interesting too. If you are opting for roast beef I like a nice porter, or a brown ale. The other option is to get a selection and let your guests do the pairing themselves. I have done this and actually had a couple of converts to good beer.

Get outta the box. Find yourself some Port from Portugal, and have a fine time of it. Nothing better after a large meal other then schnaps.
