Blogging Boggers Blog
Non-Beer Discussion by FOAMDOME
Any bloggers in this forum? I am blog-curious. I scan a few blogs (Fark, Eschaton, Totse, NextDraft, Mental Floss, etc.) and I have found that I like the informality and the apparent intimacy and earthiness of the medium. It might be a fun way to lace up some far-flung interests: Beer, individual investing, the quest for brewed Nirvana, ecclesiastical architecture, independent movies, brewed beverages beginning with "B", the music of Elvis Costello, travelling (especially to beer festivals), and stuff related to operations research in support of national security. Please post your favorite blogs, your opinions of blogging, your experiences, any tips, etc. Thanks for the help. Foam PS--Of course I will link to BeerPal!

Fair question, that! I am trying to figure it out myself, and would welcome a more educated response from anyone in the know. Here's a stab at it, Suds: "Blog" is shorthand for "web log." Blogs are diaries or journals that are posted on the web. Blogging started a couple years ago and has been growing exponentially. I do not know much about the technology, but I think the move from HTML to XML has enabled the rapid growth of blogs. Now there are literally millions of bloggers blogging. Most blogs are pretty inane testimonials to the difficulties of losing weight or maintaining a fulfilling love life, but some are truly fascinating. In fact, blogs are mounting a serious challenge to traditional print media. A growing number of people around the world rely on blogs for their news. You can turn your PC into a server, or (my preference) you can sign on with an ISP that will give or sell you server space in order to post your blog. From that point, blogs can go any way you want to take them, much like a personal web page. Hope this helps.

Pretty good, Dansting. Now I feel like the guy who's first to review a beer after ECB gets done. How am I supposed to follow that? I liked your story about your recent beer adventure. I also enjoyed your mentioning the Urban Dictionary, a fascinating project. I will check your site late to see if your submission is approved.

I have a blog. http://fistticklebrick.blogspot.com I don't write too much about beer, although it ends up being in the blog from time to time. Plus last week I wrote about my beer trip.
I remember when Flash figured out a way to link your 5 most recent BeerPal reviews to your website with a single line of JavaScript. I think this would be pretty cool. Any of you bloggers like Dansting doing this? How does it work? Search the forum and find the discussions in March and April. Here's the link to the code: http://www.beerpal.com/brain/yoursite.asp
