Beer Butt Chicken
Beer and Food by PIRATEMAN
Just wondering, how many people have tired Ted Reader's Beer Butt chicken on the BBQ. It is quite tasty and moist throughout the bird.

The basic steps are as follows: Open a can of beer and drink about a third of it. Insert said can into the ass of the chicken so as to balance the upright chicken on an ovenproof pan (to catch the drippings). Place the whole thing on your grill, close the lid and roast. The idea is that the beer boils to create steam and keeps the chicken moist from the inside out. Meanwhile the chicken is roasted crisp from the outside in, and the flavor of the beer infuses the bird. It's simple, delicious, and guaranteed to impress friends and relations alike. Try to keep your BBQ at 400 F. Cook for 20 mins per pound. I also suggest putting some kind of BBQ sauce on the outside of the bird.
You might also want to try this... Beer fondue 1/2 pound grated sharp cheddar cheese 1/2 pound grated Swiss cheese 2 Tablespoons cornstarch 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/8 teaspoon pepper Dash Tabasco (optional) 1 1/2 cups Steam Whistle(or whatever your favorite beer is...) 1 clove of garlic, peeled Rub inside of fondue pan with garlic. If you do not have a fondue set, a regular pot will work. Pour in the beer. Heat slowly. Mix cheeses, cornstarch and seasonings and gradually stir into heated beer. Stir constantly over medium heat until cheese is melted and creamy. Transfer to stand over alcohol lamp, if using a fondue set. If using a regular pot, transfer to a trivet and eat up quickly! Serve with 1" cubes of crusty bread (French bread is great!) and a green salad.
TOP FIVE FAQs FOR DRUNKEN CHICKEN: Can you use a beer bottle instead of a can? NO! The glass bottle can explode from the grill heat. Besides, bottles are too unstable to support a chicken or turkey. A tallboy can works best. It provides enough fluid to steam the chicken and the necessary support to keep the chicken upright. Does the can of beer need to be open? YES! Or your grill, the beer can and the chicken will explode and end up in your neighbor's back yard. Do you need to take a sip of beer from the can before inserting it into the chicken? YES! A freshly opened brew needs to be taste-tested. Besides, you need to leave a small amount of headroom for the steam to form. Does the can hurt the chicken when it is inserted? Only if the chicken is still alive. Good luck trying to insert a can into a live bird. Let me know how that works out. What if my grill doesn't have a lid? Then use your oven. Set it to 350 degrees and cook approximately 20 minutes per pound.
