This event is fairly inexpensive and usually has a few interesting beers. The bar is sort of hard to find, hidden in an alley around 2nd and Church streets, then down in a basement. I've gone that past two years. The biggest down side of the event is that it gets pretty damn packed. They usually have 2 flights of beers, with 4 beers each. You get a small glass of each, which you then have to balance as you wander around the dim basement until you find a spot to hang out. The event features only hardcore, high alcohol beer... barleywines. Prepare to numb your senses. Last year I split everything with a friend to help ease the pain. The first year I was so bombed that I left with 3 beer t-shirts (they were like $3 a piece) and when I got home I only had 2. The event also draws a crowd unlike most others. Lots of big, tough looking guys and plenty of freaks.
It's worth checking out if you're in the area. No cover charge. I'll probably be going again, and I'll go early to try to beat the crowd. They usually run out of the good stuff before the day is over, too.
