Very enjoyable beer and felt the subtle chocolate taste made it more appealing for regular consumption than an over-the-top, chocolate "gimmick-beer". Roasted, chocolate malt with a subtle dark choco. taste and a light hop bitterness for balance.

Was drinking this while watching the Eagles lose their third straight chance at going to the Superbowl at McGillans...boy did this help sooth the pain!! Great balance of malt and hops and very flavorful. This Philly beer makes me proud to be from Philly, despite the Iggles :)

Agreed with FlashPro, I amnew to this style, but I really enjoyed drinking it...it is very malty and sweet...and very strong. It is one of those unique styles of beer that makes going to Microbreweries SO MUCH FUN! The average rating, again, is because I just am not familar with other Wee Heavies or Scottish Strongs...

This beer has a true dichotomy--wonderfully red in color, almost sexy--I seriously have never seen a red ale that was more glowingly red--I wish I could replicate the color in my own beer. But it was overly hopped for a Red, which should be maltier, and the Nitrogen tap added little character or smoothness--I didn't quite understand the logic there. Normally I am a real big fan of I/H, but this beer was a big let down. The hops just overpowered the beer...but you have to give them credit for the creativity and attempt at something different.

I have to say, this is my first real attempt at drinking the Trappists. I have had it a few times and am really starting to pick up the spicy sublties.
