Site transfer - Temporary shut down
Website Comments by FLASHPRO
As of tonight, I plan on doing the site transfer to the new server on saturday night. This will require me disabling the current web server, copying the latest databases to the new server, tweaking some code and finally changing the domain name server address with the registrar. I plan on shutting down the site around 8pm (eastern time) Saturday. It'll take a minimum of a couple hours to copy over the data, but the domain name change can take up to 72 hours. This is totally out of my control and is because of the fact that the IP address for the site will change to the new server and it takes time for this address to propagate through the internet. Some of you will be able to "find" the new server in as little as 10 minutes, however. Hopefully, the site will be up and running for everyone by Monday morning. Wish me luck!

In Reply To #1 The site will be down (even temporarily)? Noooooooooo! Say it ain't so! To speed our return, would it be possible to blast out an email with the new IP address so we can get to the site as soon as possible?
In Reply To #2 I can easily post the new IP address on the old server (if you're browser isn't finding the new one, it will still show the old one), but the new site wouldn't function 100% with just the IP. Certain pages will be looking for the domain name, but I don't think any harm would come.
