Opened: 2013................................Closed: 2023........................................My Great Uncle Leo Whiffen lived in Southern Harbour, Newfoundland. The same outport community I grew up in on Placentia Bay. It was there Uncle Leo ran a small general store and he made beer. In the winter months he stored his bottles of beer in the attic next to the stovepipe so they wouldn’t freeze. Beer was hard to come by in 1940’s rural Newfoundland.
