Prism Beer Company was started in 2009 by Rob DeMaria, a Philadelphia native who found artistic expression in making beer. Having studied film in his early college years, he always had an eye for seeing things differently. In fact, that creative thinking enabled his career in technology, but his artistic expression was still missing. So one day he decided to try his hand in making his own beer. Of course, he couldn't allow himself to follow the recipe verbatim, so he got creative. That first beer would later turn into his summer seasonal; a Belgian White Ale brewed with Chives. Over the course of the next few years his creative outlet became quite popular with his friends. One day, his friend Tim Bitto asked him to brew some beer for his brothers going away party (He was moving to Devner). Rob had been thinking about brewing an India Pale Ale (IPA) with a twist, naturally, and did so with honey. That beer was so popular at the party, he found more and more people asking him where they could buy his beer and Bitto Honey IPA was born. The wheels in his head started turning. Over the course of the next year, while finishing his MBA, he did every homework assignment with his business plan in mind. He read, researched, talked, and listened, and in the end contacted Chris Leonard, the owner of a local Brew Pub called the General Lafayette Inn & Brewery. They established a relationship where Chris would rent space and Rob would be able to brew his beer and see what sort of response he got from the market. In November of 2009, the first beer was sold (after a few test batches sold by the General Lafayette). Less than 6 months later he closed on a small business loan, signed a lease, bought equipment and began building a brewery of his very own. Less than a year from his first beer hitting the market, Prism Brewing Company was born and beer was flowing out of the new North Wales, PA location. So get out there and enjoy some great local graft beer and stay tuned to watch us grow.
