First launched as a seasonal bitter in 1995, Shropshire Lad was inspired by the collection of poems by AE Housman. It quickly proved so popular that we made the beer available all year round. Shropshire Lad is a strong, well-rounded bitter whose cascade of flavours come from a careful blend of selected English malted barley, traditional English Fuggles and Golding hops. It is now our best-seller on draught, and in the bottle.

Cask@GBBF2007. Golden colour, small white head. Aroma is wooden and slightly fruity. Flavour is wooden and bittery grassy along with some fruityness. Very bitter finish.

500 ml brown bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. ABV is 5.0%. Copper coloured, slightly hazy, moderate to low off-white head. Aroma of earth, honey and flowers. Flavour is rich and malty but not too sweet, some burnt caramel, balanced by decent hops, a distinct bitterness in the finish and aftertaste. Moderate carbonation. I like it!

Bottle conditioned 5% abv. Chestnut coloured with creamy white head. I poured the lot in, aiming for the "wonderful flavour" (label quote) that the yeast imparts. Aroma is malty plus something almost barnyardy (down to the yeast?) and the flavour is well balanced malts and hops plus... I like this, nice and different.
