On-tap at the Green Leafe Café, in historic Williamsburg VA.

After I mentioned how "off" the cask-conditioned Williamsburg Pale Ale was to my server, I ended up getting a pint of this on the house. A nice gesture, even if I'm not a massive fan of the style. But this was a good way to finish off the night (i.e. not too big n' brutal).

Lively in both appearence and the nose, with what I assume to be a spirited dose of Liberty hops in the mix. Or maybe my senses were so much more attuned after the "isolation-tank"-like expierence of the Pale Ale? Either way, a solid start.

Flavor-wise, pretty much "by-the-numbers", as far as Steam/CalCommon beers go. That is to say, characteristics of both Lagers and Ales, with the slight fruit aspects meshing with the clean and easy-drinking components. That having been said, I think this is still angled more towards being an Ale, especially in the backend of the mouthfeel, and overall "weightiness" of the drinkability.

Regardless of quibbles, this is a very workable brew, and a good "gateway" beer for folks who may not want to dive from the Pale Lager shallow end of the pool, to the Ale-heavy deep end. Recommended.
